First off I reckon this is definitely a two man job. It took us about one hour to do one window. The seal is in 2 parts, each length comes with plenty of spare. The main seal will actually hold the window in place but you need the second length of rubber, which is the fillet, to make it water proof. This is what the main seal looks like in cross section:

This is how to fit rivinuts (AKA rivet nuts, rivnuts and rivi-nuts).
Rivinuts are essentially captive nuts and are very useful when only one side of a panel is accessible.
You are likely to only come across these when fitting front light guards or a safari snorkel (or at least these are the only 2 times I have come across them).

This was in answer to what tools are required to look after a Defender.
As a mechanic please listen.
Buy GOOD tools for the workshop.The "Rubbish" stuff can stay in the car.
Sockets.
The BEST are Snap-on.They are also the best price.However if you find a good dealer you'll be able to pay each week!!!
The 90/110 has a mix of A/F metric.
So try for sockets from 7/16A/F to 3/4A/F.
