Using more fuel...
Hi All,
Wondering if someone could shed some light...two parts to the question.
Part one: Had my turbo replaced a few weeks ago and my fuel consumption hasn't been what it was beforehand...increased by 10% (I have fitted MT's though...just didn't think it would've made that much of a difference).
Part two: if the old turbo caused wear in my engine, where could that much fuel be escaping to - and how would I test accordingly.
Oil level is normal, hasn't risen or dropped. No abnormal smoke that I've seen. Feels a tiny bit underpowered/tight, but might just be me.
Taking it to local LR pro on Thursday for an opinion - before going back to stealers.
Thanks in advance.

Yes it can. It's really noticeable on my 90 when I switch tyres. On the knobblies I use for trialling, the top speed is a LOT lower than on road tyres (even correcting for the speedo error). It's the difference between pulling up Shap at 50 instead of 60
Of course, the way to check is put your old tyres back on for a while.
Also, it could be that if your old turbo wasn't creating the same boost, then you wouldn't have used as much fuel. You might just be using the extra power a properly functioning turbo gives.

Re: Using more fuel...
As above, it's most likely the tyres. Mine used to do about 25mpg with PROPER knobblies, now with more normal MT's it's up to about 29mpg. If it's not the tyres then the turbo may not have the wastegate set right, too little boost and you're over-fueling to make up for it, too much and the injection pump tries to keep up by adding more fuel provided it doesn't meet limitations.

Max fuelling should be set by the boost pressure - less pressure=less fuel.

Re: Using more fuel...
Thanks Guys,
Took it to the mech this avi, all seems fine. Aparently here in SA the turbos arrive as sealed units - plug and play as it were...can't mess up the fitment.
Will moniter the consumption etc and see how i go.
Sold the previous set of tyres, so can't do a check on those.
Anyway, thanks again.
