    Default Wading Plug Help

i'm trying to find the 2 wading holes that need to be plugged, i've found the easy one, pretty much centre lenght and width (this is the clutch one right ?), but i cant find the second, i think its the timing cover i'm looking for .. been under with a torch, dredged the net, searched here, ordered a haynes manual (not here yet) ..

can someone point me in the right direction or am i being a real muppet ? .. no rush as i'm not going wading, just familiarizing myself with all the bits ..

    its a 95 300 tdi ....

Not sure on your tdi, but on my td its right at the front of the engine underneath. Go in under the front bumper and look up at the diesel pump and engine block, these are linked by a big aluminium casting containing the timing belt, its at the bottom of that. Sometimes the plug is screwed into another hole alongside the plughole, with a torch you may just see the rubber belt through the plughole.

    The bit with wires and metal is the E N G I N E . Only joking.
Half the stuff I don't understand. Try middle in front of the engine bottom.

    No its not the axle!
On the picture you have you can see the timing gubbins, with the cover off, radiator and grill missing. Approx where the big red arrow is pointing is where it will be.

I've attached your photo with a red circle. The wading plug is just benethe that part shown in the circle and it faces the ground. So if you go underneath the engine you will see a huge pulley with a wide belt stretched onto it. The whole were the plug goes is just a couple of centimeters behind this but like I said it's facing the ground. Good luck

thanks for the link theres some good stuff on there ... what happened in 1995 though ? .. i;ve seen this with the haynes stuff aswell, they go from stone age-1995, and then 1996 onwards, is this when the tdi became td5 ? ..

I did mean no offence with the "less than knowledgeable..." phrase, was just teasing Welcome to the land of the simple mechanics - LAND ROVERS!

Anyways the TD5 cam ein 1998/9 not 1995. 1995 was the first full production year of the 300TDi as 1994/95 was still shared between 200 and 300TDi. Don't worry about the dates as even if yours falls correctly in a set date you could still find differences!! The good thing is that you can always ask in these forums but in such a case you'd better use the "How do I do this???" section!!
