The lane is very over grown and I doubt if any Landrover could make it through without causing damage to it.

I think Mark Charnley might have done it a while ago.

Over grown trees again, there are horse shoe tracks along the way, but I would think by the end of next month the road will be impassible to horses and mountain bikes, walkers would have to brave the nettles.

This is what happens when the lanes are not maintained.

I'm glad I didnt attempt to drive up this lane there are no turning points, its a real shame because its such a nice area.
It needs clearing badly for all users.

The second lane I went to check out was up in the Lyth Valley south lakes.

I found the start of the lane, checked the OS map and it is clearly marked as a byway, parked the disco and again with my trusty russel we set of to walk it first, a sighn post pointing to the track on the right had Bridleway, moving the vegitation from around it the sighn ahead also Bridleway.

We walked up the road through a long strech of woodland which I could see has been managed, through a gate and the stoney lane started to desend not too steeply the lane bottomed out and through more trees a couple of bends down another slope and I reached the bottom of the lane, looked at the sighn at that end, Byway with a user sighn from south lakes council.
We had a nice walk back to the Disco and thought driving this way along the lane would be more interesting, at a guess the lane could be a couple of miles long.

I checked the map found a suitable route to start the lane from that end.

Through the gate and into the woods, it looks worse than it is the disco went through ok just the odd light branch brushing along. The lane through the wood section is sound but the trail route ask not to drive it in wet weather.

This was a nice lane to drive, think I will bring Sharon with me next time, the fields were covered in cowslips and the light reflecting through the trees was magical.

Hope you enjoyed the trip with me

Well Sharon saw the pics and we went back up together and took the russel with us. Did the lane again at 6pm we stoped on the part where there is a small meddow, Sharon was able to get out and have a short walk in the evening sunshine, she was amazed how many cowslips were around and all the different wild flowers you just dont see from the roads.

For those of you that dont know Sharon has MS so its good to be able to get into these places.

Thanks Manthing, its good to know peebs are looking at my post and like what they see.

I do hope we can keep these lanes, its good to get Sharon into these places she enjoys being deep into the country side to see things you dont see on roads.
We were both keen fell walkers before Sharon became ill, I think some times people dont think about how they would react if it happend to them.
Green laning is a way for us to enjoy the country side together and to get up on the fells the wild life up there you just dont see near roads.

Anyway I hope you like my posts, tomorrow i,m going to recci Walna Scar Nr Coniston so will post pics of that.

    Cheers folks Graham

Lanes in the UK are so much prettier than those here. All we have to drive on around me are "fire trails" they are trails not usually maintained by the government, however they are there so the firemen can reach the back country in case of a forest fire. No where near as pretty as those you posted though. I'll have to take a camera next time we go to show you all. These are the only pics I have. Of course, it was late winter, it's probably quite a bit prettier now.
