95 300 tdi disco commercial

I paid a man to put a second hand R380 and transfer box in my disco commercial, the gearbox he replaced was well shot with constant nasty noises and crunching in all gears. The new second hand one is better but will still crunch going into second and I still have a large amount of backlash that can be felt on every gear change. I have swapped the bias plate for one that isn't broken and the bias springs for a couple that had some tension in them, I've also drained the extra litre of gear oil out of the transfer box that was pouring out of the hand brake drum.
I do have a donor 200tdi which I believe could give me a transfer box (I know to be quiet and without the usual backlash) which will fit straight on and my question is this; will the 200tdi back axle replace the 300tdi back axle and are there any real problems in doing this such as changing the prop coupling etc.. Are they the same length prop shaft?
All help most gratefully received, thanks in advance
Dave

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Series 3 speedometer cable made by ****part. Your cable has been lovingly hand-assembled by Thai ladyboys in a small factory that we found by accident while we were looking for something else altogether.

We hope that your new cable gives you many weeks of good service. To enhance your ownership experience we have made a few small changes to the design. Please read these instructions carefully and then pass them on to the NASA space shuttle maintenance team that you have assigned to fit this part for you. In the event of not having such a team, we wish you the very best of luck.

1. Clamp ring - speedo to gearbox. We felt that this looked a little small, so we have made it slightly larger. At the same time we increased the spacing between the three screw holes to keep everything in proportion. You will need to elongate the holes with a file to have any chance of getting more than one of the screws in.

2. Metal ferrule - gearbox end. To keep our prices competitive we used some ferrules that we had made for another job. They are a little larger than the recess in the speedo drive and will need reducing in diameter with a file. We feel this is a good thing as it allows our customers to ensure that the ferrule fits the recess perfectly. To be frank, we don't know what the correct diameter should be anyway. Accuracy is for anoraks.

3. Connecting clip - speedo end. To modernise the design we used the same plastic retaining clip as on the Defender. We realise that this is too large to fit through the hole in the bulkhead, but are confident that our customers will rise to the challenge. We are also aware that the clip is not in quite the right place to fit the retaining groove on the back of a Series speedo, but by the time you have broken off the clip to get the cable through the bulkhead, this won't matter anyway.

4. Inner cable ends. We form the upper end of the cable to the correct square shape to fit in the back of the speedo. However the tool to do this is very expensive and we don't want to wear it out. So for the gearbox end we just place the cable end on an anvil and give it a good smack with a hammer. The flattened end should engage with the speedo drive gear just fine, but may need poking in with a pair of needle nose pliers just to be sure. It may also slip if we haven't hit it hard enough.

5. Inner cable length. Due to the increase in cost of raw materials we have had to make the inner cable around 10mm shorter than we would ideally have liked. You can choose to engage the cable at either the gearbox or speedo end, but we regret it is not possible to engage both at once. However we would point out that our cables are significantly cheaper than those of our competitors, and don't forget that we are an ISO9001 company, so our quality is beyond doubt. In any case, if you are fitting a new cable then presumably your old one didn't work either, so it is not like you have lost anything is it?

*****

Grrrr. 2 hours trying to fit a speedo cable and it still doesn't work. That is the very last time I allow a customer to bring me a ****part item and ask me to fit it for them.

Evening all.

I have spent months trying to trace a leek behind the headliner on the passenger side of my 110 CSW. It drips in when standing, and when turning a corner there is a small waterfall, usually over the passengers feet (a familiar story).

After following advice on the forum and looking at the water ingress manual I'm still stumped. I have resealed the guttering along the length of the passengers side with dum-dum. I have done the same in the corner of the door-frame, I have taped up the roof seams, taped up the sunroof (its the twist opening one so no drainage pipe) sealed the alpine windows, filled the small crack in the windscreen rubber and filled under the lip above the windscreen to be sure - no change.

That said, I have had the headliner off and I can see where the water is emerging from but its not from the roof, sunroof or windows.. I'm stumped. Any other suggestions?

Pics of where the water is emerging from attached.
