I just talk as if I was talking over the phone. There are the 10 codes, but no-one uses them any more. :)

Got a very good deal on a Blaupunkt Cassablanca CD with free fitting. Problem is, fitting only available Monday to Friday! Should have been working this weekend but was given extra time off to recover.

Thats what I was wondering......it is the same in principal really isn't it? Usual governmental cock up, I guess....The left hand holding the mike dont know what the right hand holding the phone is doing.....How do you steer?? Well, only real men drive Landies you know....:hahaha:

It's probably got more to do with the fact that a heck of a lot of police, fire ambulances, coastquard etc vehicles have twop way radios, although there is provision for this in the legislation. Basically you're exemptd if you're making a 999 call, it's unsafe to stop or you're engaged in an emergency services conversation....
What I want to see is something concrete to throw at people reading maps, papers, drinking, eating, smoking etc whilst driving...

Whilst talking about cb's
Please could everyone remember to buy a cb license... I know your chances of getting caught not having one are remote (at worst!) but if no-one buys them then the bean counters in London say "ah, there's no-one using these frequencies, we can sell them to someone who'll pay us lots of money"...
and then we're stuck with pmr which has a range only slightly greater than a good shout :Cross: and any equipment you have becomes immediately obsolete/illegal :Cross: :Cross:
Just a thought!

I have been using cb for about a year now, I have an 80channel Midland unit,
Is it legal to use any of the other channels apart from the uk ones, as i have been using EC to keep in contact with friends from the contact the Content when they have been over here

Also Stephen informs me i need a liscence to use cb in this country, and that all i have to do is buy one,

erm, yes you can use the sept channels as well as the uk ones... provided you have a license!
The license costs £15 for a year (from memory) and I can't remember off the top of my head the address!! I'll try to remember to have a dig and find it for you though!!

http://www.radio.gov.uk/publication/ra_info/ra246/ra246.htm
is an information sheet which should answer most of your questions,
http://www.radio.gov.uk/publication/ra_info/ra240.htm
Should be an application form for a license.

Owen, do the Blue Bugs still use channel 11 in Essex? I'd love to know if any of the "old" guys are still around.
Next time you are out go and give them a shout. Good bunch of blokes who started the channel as a way of reporting traffic going to and from London.
Hi All
This reminds me of when I was in army cadets as a spotty youth, I remember doing a TA signals course over 6 weekends and having a damn good laugh as well. We trained with the various types of equipment ie Clansmen radios and learnt all about laying telephone lines and field communications ie Triford (I think that was what it was called), when we finished it and I went back to my unit, we used CBs, I eventually discovered the CB had a greater range than the Clansmen set, I did like those snazzy throat mikes.
Anyhow at the beginning of the post you asked about etiquette and lingo, I first of all thought of Mike Hardings CB lingo song, if you can get a copy of it its a bloody good laugh. But I suppose you could use the army style ie hello one this is two, message send over, hello two this is one, send message, my Landrover turned over in Andover whilst visiting Dover over (yes it's a bit long winded) but you can have snazzy call signs like sunray and it's a good laugh. Most importantly of all whist doing this you must speak in a loud, clear, plumby, English mans voice.
I take it channel 9 is still for emergencys only and channel 19 is for contact

Have you tried switching SCAN on, and it'll just auto scan every channel until it finds a chatty one.
I usually find a truck driver somewhere ..or even taxi drivers .
But its best for off roading without a doubt, which is really why i bought mine. :)
