Just found this Forum again and was reading the other insurance thread seen someone was insured with Footman James, at the LRo show ay Peterborough i was working on the glass stand, one of the members came across with a query as footman would not insure them for greenlaning so off i went ready for an arguement and sure as hell thats what i got. apparently their underwriters(I think) will not issue cover all the usual arguements failed and i left feeling a bit concerned as to how many people are insured with insurance companies who take the same view.
Just thought i would put this here as it may be worth a phone call to your insurance company!!

hmm? surely something to ponder over!! thought that was the whole point of checking our routes carefully so we drive on legal rights of way where the laws of the road still apply:soapbox: im in glass also and will be bringing this up tomorrow at our meeting:chatter: ta mate:thumbsup:

I found it nearly amusing that a company who sponser a Landrover show to get a bigger area of the market do not offer cover for the biggest recreation event of said market.
I raised the point with a few other members on the stand, a few ideas got banded around was considering doing some research for an article in tha GLASS mag if everyone that does phone their insurance company post'd the results of their conversation it will make my article a wee bit easier to do!!!

Hi Neil. Good idea that. I think Liverpool and Victoria do cover you off road (oldfart checked, he's with them too). I would have thought greenlanes count as roads, so your insurance would cover you, but obviously not. :dunno1:
Hi thought green lanes counted as roads they are legal rights of way,
doubt i am covered as i am isured as a historic comercial vehicle, does this mean if i green lane i am braking the law???????
Confused

Not sure about you, but our insurance for George is historic with 5000 mile limit, but we ARE still covered for green lanes.

Been talking to some lads tonight who took the insurance offer at the show, they were not made aware of this. They are going to look into the legal point's i.e. can they legally say you cannot drive on a certain type of road, as all lanes are highways and recognised as such.
for peace of mind we all should look into this with your insurer.
Keep me posted so i can try and get a good list together!!

If Green Lanes are classed as 'Roads' or rights of way and Insurance companies say they will not insure anyone to drive these 'roads', how will farmers cope, will insurance companies start telling us we can't drive unclassified roads, motorways. This shows me once again they are only money grabbing b's!

Makes you wonder who the Landy owning insurance brokers in our midst insure with............
Both mine are insured with Land Rover Insurance and are fully covered not just for use off road but also for offroad recovery.
OK so one is brand new and the other is 7 years old, but LR were the only company that would insure my father( as a named driver) who is 77 to drive offroad................. better check your age limits too...
Compared to my last insurer - who was happy to insure my 2 Discos but wouldn't look at the Freelander! - LR worked out at £5 a year more expensive but I got offroad cover, off-road recovery, unlimited foreign us (only drive to England once or twice a year so it's no great shakes!!), repairs done at LR dealer using genuine parts and a host of other things. Cost for the Defender is £342 pa fully comp with limited 5000 miles and £500 excess.
Cost for the Rangey is £376 pa with 10000 miles and same excess. They will not let me to save money by becoming a 2 car "fleet".
