View Full Version : Weekend trial pics
We just finished a trial out at Diggers Hole which was extremely dry this time. Only one patch of water. A tough trial that saw two broken front drive shafts one of them the leaving the vehicle without steering and one broken diff. One of the casualties is the Lara Croft look alike being towed out and unable to steer.
The second picture of the yellow rangie was of him reversing up the embankment. How's that side angle in the other pic of him. If that was me in my 109 either I would have rolled or I would have climbed out  never to have ventured on a trial again.

Wow - looks like fun all round! And a couple of folk probably stuck under their vehicles this week sorting out the bits that broke/fell off/got damaged... I'm still learning to drive mine, never mind attempt that kind of thing..

That was part of the trial. This was a particularly difficult section where there was a forced reverse due to the tree that the rangie was backed up against. Some tried getting their vehicles to slide off the slope to avoid the reverse but none actually mananged it. Then they were required to reverse out the gully and the gradient as you can see was pretty steep. At the bottom and the top (slightly offset) were sets of gates. The idea was that if you went slowly you got stuck at the top with no traction and if you used speed your direction control (in reverse mind you with no sight of the poles) had to be spot on. The yellow rangie took it slowly and would have made it at that speed because of the incredible traction of his tyres but ........ the Holley carb couldn't take the angle and there was fuel starvation. There he sat and had to roll down to level ground to get fuel supply. Notwithstanding this he still won the trial in the men's lwb category.

Michelle if you get the chance join a landy club (try the Cape branch of the Land Rover Owners Club) and you'll learn so much about the capabilities of your vehicle. You don't have to do the intense vehicle breaking bit (which is usually very seldom). I look at the course that has been set and usually just miss out the section/s I think will damage my vehicle and do those that are a challenge without the chance of serious damage. Every time though I end up having to weld my side steps back on. The joys of having a long wheel base.
Our club has offroad training available at a virtual give away price. Plus the experienced hands will help you along the way in any event. What you will need are recovery points front and rear.
The guys that break things are generally those that only use their vehicle for this type of thing and so are not really bothered.

Thanks - I do plan to join up with some local like-minded individuals soon! I need to get some knowledge and skill going so I can really enjoy driving the truck. And go play in the occasional mud-pool.. ;)
