View Full Version : Photo competition....

Stephen and myself have discussed starting a piccy comp for members.
Here's a few ideas to chuck around for comment before we draw up some ground rules.
1) It will be each month or 2 monthly...probaly 2 monthly
2) Subject can be either LR related or not...but subject will be decided for you at the start of each comp.
3) All piccys must be ones taken by member who submits, not to be taken from other sources.
4) Max size posted not to exceed 600x500.
5) Max of 2 piccys per member per comp
This should appeal to amateurs and pros alike, either scanned or diggy. Sometimes composition will be closely looked at ....but not always. So it wont matter if your camera is steam driven or the latest dogs do dahs......unless we specify quality.....content will be the main aim.
There may be a token prize for each comp but nothing spectacular....summink like a landy mug , or a window sticker (when we get them).
Winner for each comp will have his/her piccy stickied at the head of this Forum for the duration of the subsequent comp.
Judging will be by 3 eminent Photographers. :D

Photo competition is a nice idea... not that I would get anywhere with my crappy digicam and the fact that I hardly ever go anywhere...:Cross:
How about judging by poll? Entrants post their piccies into a thread by a certain date then someone sets up poll (in that thraed if poss or a new thread if not) and folk get to vote on their fave piccy? Can't remember maximum options in a poll now, but worth a try?
I'll get me coat...:goofylook

Polls are'nt a fair way of judging Bernie, there are ways and means of voting more than once !
Our idea was to keep it fun and friendly......nowt too serious....and give everyone a chance no matter what type of camera they have , and use the talents of a few long term members who people trust for judging :dunno1:
Vicky has agreed to be one of the judges which i'm frankly delighted with :yay:
Some one from the community who is NOT a Mod would be most welcome to step forward and join Vicky....provided they have a good eye for a half decent photo thats all we need :)
I've got loads of ideas for subject content from cleanest/tidiest engine bays, to best off road airbourne piccy, to best male gurner, and of course best female gurner :yikes:
Most leaned over landy, Dirtiest landy etc etc ........get the picture :yay:
....and give us your own ideas for subject content :hahaha:

Twas just a thought - to me a panel of 3 'judges' sounds more serious and less 'fun and friendly' than voting in a poll. All the polls I've seen on here are meant to be fun, and ok yes if you really want to rig the voting you can but it's hardly a general election is it?:dunno1:

There's no reason why both methods couldnt be used alternate comps :dunno1:
Besides the judges could be changed each comp, again drawn from members..... Vicky could be the "Resident" Judge plus two different people each comp....surely thats better input than putting yer mouse on a dot :p

Got it, there could be a poll to decide whether to use polls, then a poll to elect the judges...:buck:
Nah jus kiddin, yes it would be a good idea to ring the chnages and have different methods, different judges etc.

How about a comp to find the 'essence' of Landrover ownership as illustrated through a photo - one which will 'appeal' and have the most meaning to the majority of Landy owners (hopefully broad enough to include every one!)
i.e Taking an angle grinder to a rusted/stripped/bent and well beaten bolt - whilst setting fire to ones ovvies - a maniacal grin , and sweat dripping off your nose into the snow on your driveway!
Or sittin on the bonnet in the sunset , up a hill , with a dog , shotgun hanging out the tailgate and a salmon in yer pocket
Gettin the idea !??????
Cheers

I think that would be a good idea for the first comp Andy, i'll confer with Stephen when he gets back from the Lakes and hopefully kick it off this coming weekend :)

or as the case is down here, taking the kids to school in the rangie, disco or freelander:bigun2:

It would be eligable if there was a Landy in it !
Every one would get judged on its own merit ---- I recon ?
When can we post - I need to get the boffins in to operate the scanner !??
Cheers
