Brigid and I spent two days in the Addo Elephant Park just before Christmas, and I thought I should post a few of the photo's here. As the name of the park implies, there is no shortage of elephant. There are literally hundreds of them.

I was very interested to see that the jackals are much less shy than anywhere else I've been, and the hyaena's are far more shy than usual. I'm not sure why.

On the way home we stopped in at Bathurst "The Home of the Largest Pineapple in the World"

Now I know the Scots are nuts... growing pineapples in Scotland  The mind boggles... :)

The Bathurst pineaple is 17m high, and made of steel and fibreglass. Inside it is a small museum and a curio shop that sells...... you got it.... pineapples. :D

We bought 10 huge juicy pineapples at R2.50 each (That's about 18p each). Now we have pineapple chicken, pineapple juice, pineapple pizza, pineapple salad, pineapple daiquiris, barbequed pineapple with chocolate sauce, pineapple glazed ham for Christmas, etc. etc. etc. It's a good thing I like pineapples...

Marc

Have you changed the front bumper / bullbar on your Kalahari?

Happy New Year!

Yup, very observant. I took the whole bullbar and winch from the Td5. I thought the Kalahari bull bar looked too much like a Toyota HiLux bar. :)

Did it go with the TD5 or is it taking up space in your garage?

Nice shots Marc. I particularly like those of the goshawk and the hyena. You probably felt two days was far too short.

Hi Kevin,

Actually, I thought 2 days was about right for Addo. It's a very pretty park, but it is small and it's difficult to really get the feeling that you're actually "in the bush". Being small and compact though, it is great for photography. I was trying to shoot video, and I got some great footage, but the wind was a problem for audio.

TBH, you get kinda sick of ellies after a while at Addo, they're just everywhere.

The goshawk was a lovely spotting, and I've never had such a good sighting. We watched him for about 20 mintes before he flew off.

Strangely, the nicest sighting we had was from our bungalow patio. Two lovely elephant and a male kudu walked past while we were having a braai in the evening, and the next morning I watched a scrub hare foraging about in the bushes. I was so fascinated by the hare, and how alert he was that I must have well over half an hour of video of him. :)

No births though :( You make me very jealous. ;)

Details of this place would also be welcome.
