The past few months have demonstrated the NETSTAR - LAND ROVER alliance to be a triumphant one over crime syndicates operating in various provinces. What follows, are true accounts of three Land Rover Dealerships that have benefited from this alliance as a result of the Netstar units being pre-fitted in their vehicles before delivery is taken.

MIDRAND

At 12:39 pm on the 12th December 2005, Land Rover Midrand was targeted by a crime syndicate operating in the area. One member of the syndicate (a well dressed gentleman) entered the dealership as a potential customer, interested in buying a Land Rover Discovery. He then proceeded to take the vehicle on a test drive, whilst 3 of his accomplices entered the dealership posing as clients. They made their way through the service area to a Land Rover Discovery parked in the wash bay (with the keys in the ignition). They drove the vehicle out of the wash bay and waited for their accomplice to return from the test drive, at which time they obtained the gate pass and exited the dealership, no questions asked. By the time Marius Prinsloo (Midrand Dealer Principal) realised what had just happened the perpetrators (and a client's vehicle) had already vanished. He immediately alerted Netstar who responded within minutes, locating the vehicle near the Irene Golf Course. At this point the perpetrators must have heard the Netstar helicopter hot on their heels and they abandoned the vehicle at the Moreleta Park shopping Centre. At 13:04 just 25 minutes after the first phone call to Netstar's emergency call centre the vehicle was officially recovered suffering no damage whatsoever.
FREE STATE

The 14th December 2005 proved to be another challenging day for Netstar when they received a phone call from a Land Rover Dealership in Bloemfontein reporting that one of their vehicles had been stolen from the wash bay at their dealership. Netstar alerted their recovery teams nationally, and although the vehicle had already been fitted with foreign licence plates it was no match for Netstar's recovery teams, who located and recovered the vehicle at a shopping centre off Comaro Road in Johannesburg. Two suspects were subsequently arrested.

LIMPOPO

Land Rover Polokwane found themselves in a similar situation in January this year, when two members from a crime syndicate in the area entered their dealership claiming to be clients. They looked around for a short while before leaving and returning for a second time later that day. In a cavalier fashion they made their way through the service area to the workshop and minutes later drove out undetected in a new Land Rover Discovery. The Netstar branch in Polokwane was immediately alerted and proceeded to activate the Netstar unit fitted in the vehicle, picking up the first signal near Netstar's Operations Manager Victor Wilson and his team gave chase on the ground as the Netstar helicopter provided aerial backup. The suspects left the main road when they heard the helicopter approaching and the vehicle was subsequently recovered, abandoned near Maubane Village.
