I was wondering if users in South and Southern Africa would like to share with us what GPS units they are using and what software they are running on their GPS's?

I've got a Garmin GPSV Deluxe that I bought on ebay with European Cityselect and Worldmap.

Worldmap isn't great and I need to make a decision as to which software to buy to get the thing to work properly in Southern Africa.

It's a toss up between T4A that doesn't route (and doesn't cost the price of a small farm) and Garmap that seems to be rather pricey.

I personally don't have a GPS but last weekend I was camping with a friend and we were using his GPS to get there. He has a Garmin Quest and he uses a programme which I think is called Map Source. There is also Traks for Africa website which one can join and can download waypoints for many places in southern and central Africa.

Kevin,

You're the guy who works for Metro, aren't you?

If you mean Metro Police in Jhb, no  . I used to, but left about 10 years ago and now am self employed in driver training :) .

Does anyone else use a handheld GPS in the UK for navigating green lanes. What sort do you use? If after a new one as my previous Garmin eTrex was crap!
