Public footpaths and bridleways are public rights of way which cross land which is usually in private ownership. As such, a landowner may give permission to, for example, drive a vehicle on a footpath. However, anyone exercising such permission must do so with due regard to the other users of the highway. Access without consent is against the law.

So if a path is marked as a footpath but runs across private land and you get permission off the land owner to drive it you can do?????

If you get permission from the land owner you can drive anywhere... tonight I'm going to some greenlaning in my rose bed I thinks... ;)

I thought that wether they ran through private land or not that were still the something to do with the council. etc

Booger all to do with the council.
If they are on private land, the landowner has the legal obligation of keeping them clear/usable and unobstructed.
He can also give you permission to drive anywhere on his own land, regardless of whether they are ROW's or not.

Mine spends hours on footpaths/bridleways at night :p

Got caught up in some dogging the other night.... pulled up at a local beauty spot, was dark, we'd took the dog and some food from tesco. So were sat there wondering what all these cars are doing all pointing towards a car with its doors open......... Then realised they were dogging, then the warden turned up so we said is that what we think and he was like yer thats why i come up and close it now (he had a nice 130) anyway thing was b4 that we'd took the spot covers off and flashed the lights to make sure they were all on and someone flashed back at us :o....... If thats dogging tho it seems pretty boring lol

I did a search about the area on google turns out its fav tranny spot  :o at night.
