View Full Version : Discovery or similar, <2k
I've tried to be sensible, but I just can't do it, I need a Land Rover in my life!
I'm after a tidy ish diesel Discovery (or maybe diesel range rover, hell even a 90/110 but think that's pushing the budget). It'll probably get a few off road mods so not averse to those already modified!
Been looking on ebay to get an idea of what's about but I'm not quite ready to buy yet (unless someone wants to swap a disco for a mk3 golf gti)...
Anybody?

I got one few weeks back, a few teething problems with the gas soon sorted out with the excellent fitting guy and now its as cheap to run as a hatchback. 18+ to the gallon on gas @ 40ppl [Checked over 1200 miles] and about a gallon of petrol a week.

I'm on the hunt for a 90/110...
Not in a rush to sell, it's going for major service and MoT in a couple of weeks.
Cheers,
if it sits in at under 2k! Don't think I'm ready until mid August unless somebody buys my golf with a very short mot!
I GOT ONE ON EBAY...ITEM NUMBER 170006116998...PRICE IS VERY FLEXIBLE...ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A BIG MOTORBIKE ABOVE 900cc.....Nigel.

Herne Bay - place of my birth!
Anyway, that's irrelevant.
Yes under £2k, close to £1.8k. Blue, 200Tdi, 166,000 miles (at present), MoT will be to Aug 07 (due 11 Aug, but as I said it's going for that in a fortnight), Tax 01/07, 7 seater, with the options pack i.e. alloys, twin sunroofs, roof bars etc.
Recent head gasket replacement, cam belt, core plugs, starter, alternator and various little bits and pieces. Synchro on 2nd doesn't (but as an ex-HGV driver whose 1st car was a SIIa I don't notice too often, usually when distracted :D ). One or two small dents - none, I hasten to add, inflicted by me, but one during my ownership.
Generally in good condition. I want something more basic (though I've no doubt my other half will whinge!) and would rather find the right motor. (The 205 CJ just went on PistonHeads).
Cheers,

Donk, whats up with your CAPS LOCK? Is it jammed on? Makes reading your posts very difficult and on the interweb it is regarded as SHOUTING to type in capitals.
As for the original poster for a Disco, dont consider getting a petrol to convert it to gas, the conversion is too expensive on the age of car you are looking at. The petrol V8's can be found very cheap and are good motors unless you are doing thousands of miles a year.
The best all rounder is the 300Tdi, fairly economical and usually reliable. Lots to be found on ebay but watch out for rot and neglect. I think a Discovery is a better buy than a Rangie purely because the Classics look quite dated now but a tidy Discovery still looks up to date. The Defender is OK if you dont mind the restricted space in the cabin. To me the Disco has it all, great off-road ability, economy, handling, looks and comfort.
To be honest I don't think I'd consider a V8 if it hadn't already been converted to gas. My Range Rover got 8mpg in the end (granted, it was a little bit overfuelling)... that got expensive!
Sorry to Donk, but I don't think I'll be in a position to buy for a few weeks yet. I think I'd be optimistic to think I could sell the current car for the price it deserves with just a month MOT left on it!
I always thought 300tdi's were out of budget?
With regards to Rangie vs Disco vs 90/110, I'm not fussed. I'm just aware that 2k isn't going to get the best of 90/110's. Although my truck cab only cost 2k and that was good!
