More info,

Meeting points!

8-15 Mile End services
9-00 Lake Vyrnwy, just over the dam, this is just before the frist lane.
10-15 Bala, car park on the left just as you come into Bala from Corwen.

I have chosen the different meeting points as it makes it easer for some to join later.

Another great days laning, thanks to Paul for the invite and Mark from CRAG who was route planner and our leader for most of the day. Our group included Tim from CRAG with his SII and it coped very well even if it struggled a little keeping up on the road stages between lanes...

Happy Valley was a wonderful route, all that rock. I was sorry to leave everyone when they went off for some evening laning in the woods but the fish and chips in Aberdyfi more than made up for missing the RUPP :D

By the way, as I will need to drop Bertha off at the garage this week. I was wondering if anyone in the Bangor area knows of a good garage. Currently Im using the one off Farrar Road (MOT centre side, up the little lane), which is very good and not bad price, but can never argue with a better deal if there is one about?

Yea Dave: My original intentions were to keep my Discovery pretty standard, and do just a little off road work, but after the run out with you and the lads the other weekend, the bug has got me.
Sooo I’ve fitted 2” higher springs and gone completely mad and fitted 235/85/16 tyres, and it looks bloody lovely. At first I tried to fit the offset white steel wheels I had on my old Series III, but they put the tyre well under the edge of the wings, I chopped a fair bit of the rear wheel arch to get them to miss under full articulation, but when it came to cutting the front I cowered out, so as a last resort I put the tyres on my Disco wheels and, WOW they fit, and they would probably have fitted without the need to cut the rear arches.
Still, the wheels I want eventually will be something like the Preditor, and to fit those I will probably have to cut the arches anyway, but by that time I will probably have a few more battle scars and the decision to cut won’t be so difficult.

DavejDavies
1st May 2006, 09:51
Nice one Keith :D :D :D

The off roading bug really does get you

The extra lift the 235/85/16 tyres give you will save your diffs - did you go for muds or ATs?

No expert on cutting Disco arches but there's lots of info on it out there, something Geo seems to know a lot about ...

There were 2 very serious looking Discos yesterday which you could of got ideas from, sorry there weren't more photos we were just having sooo much fun :D :D

Hi Dave, the tyres are BFG/ Trac edge, like an all terrain but a little bit more aggressive, they are ones I had for my Series III just before I sent the old girl to her maker, don’t think BFG actually make them any more? But they really are a cracker of a tyre.
Yes those Disco’s do look the part, no doubt I shall get to see them before long and swap notes, could have made it with you yesterday, if I had put the tyres on the Disco wheels to start with, instead of the white 8 spokes.

Fair enough, if you're going to carry on hitting cattle feeders keep the bull bar  bet you need some butchering to get it to fit. The Rebel steering guard on my 90 was very tight but as it taking the load from the towing eye thats a good idea...I'd botch the bull bar to fit over the steering guard

Know what you mean, first time I did it Paul got stuck (difflock not working) we all got out to watch him winch himself around the bend and I saw how bad the gully was   Backwards wasn't an option so carefully applied the gas and prayed

Don't know why you didn't follow Jon's established Disco line  :D
