Hi Paul, my disco is shod with BFG/AT Tyres not MT – but I do have a tow rope, will that do? I will wear a long sleeve jumper, garden gloves, and tuck my trousers in my socks, that should help prevent scratching myself, but I thought we were driving green lanes not lane clearing.
Hi floyd fan, is that aka Jon? Cheers mate. Do you have a lift on your Discovery Jon? Mine is pretty basic, 235/70/16 MT – no lift yet, sump guard – diff guards – snorkel, and that’s it really. Might just chuck some 2” lift springs on tomorrow for Sunday, what you think? Oh still have front skirt on bumper; do you think I should take that off for Sunday? I must admit it’s lasted well up to yet.
Off to work shortly lads, so if I don’t reply tonight you will know why and I will catch you later

You should be ok on ATs. Its not a bad route, just a little over grown in a couple of places. I have taken someone on road tyres on some of it. I have a tow rope as well. I will be working on the winch tomorrow as well.
The worse bit will be up the steps, but that is almost all rock.

It shouldn't be too bad but as Paul will tell you there is no such thing as non damaging laning - if the odd branch is in your way take some loppers or let Jon's Disco go first :D I am planning to follow both Disco to ensure a nice wide track is clearled for my 90 :D :D I would definatly consider removing your front skirt as a few of the ruts are deepish - diff guards will be good - hope the water isn't deep enough for a snorkle as I don't have one at the moment but could come over all Blue Peter by Sunday and make something  :D :D

This what I tell everyone when they ask. There might only be one tree for 5 miles, but if you drive into it. There will be some damage.

Well as I am leading, If I can fit you will be able to.
I would definatly consider removing your front skirt as a few of the ruts are deepish
Yes that might catch a little, but if it dose do not go backwards, as it will pull it off, just keep going forward. Some of the ruts can cause a bit of wheel spin for a couple. But its not to bad. Where the ruts are, I have seen a freelander do it.
hope the water isn't deep enough for a snorkle as I don't have one at the moment but could come over all Blue Peter by Sunday and make something  :D :D
If the water looks to deep, I will be turning round anyway. I might have the snokel fitted by then, but I might not. I dont mind the water, its just the fact you can be sent down stream by the water.

It's a cunning plan :D Or a very silly idea
Well here we go, whilst looking through some information on gabion cages I found "Modular Gravity Retaining Walls - Design Guidance" which mentioned that tyre walls, when stacked and fixed together and filled with stone or soil could make effective, low raise retaining structures, cheap, flexible and easy to do if there's penty of labour available.
With a bit of luck old tyres could be 'donated' free from tyre fitters, light enough to transport by Landy, fill material should be about on site and it might even tick the 'green' recycling box :D
As long as the tyres were fully filled, compacted, stacked nicely, anchored down and fixed together firmly I think there's a good chance it might work?
Any civil engineers on the forum who could do the sums?

On closer inspection the pipe looks fine! What wasn't was the dump valve at the bottom of the inner wing intake mount! So sealed all that lot up good and proper! Also remember to check your airbox for gaps, Eva's had HUGE slits where the parts had been spot welded badly together!

Bit off topic, but when does that stops us here :D
Just had the bill for the replacement fuel pump which went at the start of March - the garage is very slow billing so I budgeted for £300 - came in at £420  :( - new tyers tomorrow another £350 so its been an expensive Land Rover week
Tomorrow needs to be nice and non-damaging otherwise I'll be riding my bike to work
Was that the injector pump or the lift pump? As it seems a lot for a lift pump.

It's the pump inside the tank (TD5) - part price compares to prices I've seen on the web, labour was 3.5 hours but that's the tank dropped too and includes a bit of poking around trying to fix the inital whining when he thought the pump would be OK... Just glad it wasn't main dealer rates

Those in-tank pumps are hideously expensive! :(
On another note I tried out Eva's winch just now and alls well, pulled her easily up a steep hill without driving! :yay:
Think I must of overheated the motor a bit!
Hows yours going Paul?

Yea pricey, most of the cost is the part and the VAT :(
Think they just go, heard of a few similar failures, not got the time to list all the potential TD5 problems
The design of the fuel filter sensor has know changed (to match later models) - think this contributed to the problem with the pump  Now got a redundant elecctric connection block where it used to go into the water in fuel sensor which has know been discontinude
Nice simple 200TDi sounds tempting at times - supposed to be easy to work on (your be the expert on that this weekend) and no electrics :D

By eck you lucky lucky ******! Coulda been sooooo much worse! I figured out today why you got oil spewing out the front of your rocker cover! Is not from the gasget but from the cap, it is sprung loaded to allow excess pressure to escape if the breather unit on the side cannot cope!
If I lived near ya fella you can bet your ass I'd be camped out on your driveway helping you out! Love doing engine stuff, had such fun rebuilding Moses' engine when he replaced the head!! :D  I know I know I am a little weird but as far as I can see it I could be hanging around town getting in to trouble and stuff!!!

The pots arnt really showing any wear :p but have glazed over so im honing them and banging in new rings and shells.....phew.
just playing the waiting game now....
one fly in the ointment is Ive had the injectors tested and they need replacing he wants £85 each ..sod that..... ive got to find cheaper ones somewhere....apparently they are only good for about 90k..
