I got pretty detailed email informing that the wayfinder website is being updated and moving and not to add lanes or user reports to the database while work is being carried out. Also states GLASS website is updating.
Visiting this morning the wayfinder website states...
"
You may have received an email telling you that Wayfinder © is moving
this is NOT the case and you should ignore this email
Wayfinder will remain here and continue to be developed with new and exciting features"
Who made the mistake?
Why did they not follow up the email with a 'sorry we made a mistake?
Why does it make me feel there is something else going here, internal politics.
If there is no follow up email how else can I conclude other than the original was a malicious bogus email sent by a party using my email address gained from GLASS/WAYFINDER membership details.

If there's nothing sinister going on, then it's poor communication and/or incompetence.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the changes, I hope I won't be disappointed after all this build-up.
BTW I made it to 295 logs after the Peak District weekend! Hopefully it will easier to use so that we see alot more data logging from more regular users.

and so we have this...
The email came from www.wayfinderproject.co.uk (http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk)
Which look likes and smells like the official www.way-finder.co.uk (http://www.way-finder.co.uk) but is not quite like.
So.... what is going on?

Dear Wayfinder user,
Big moves are afoot for Wayfinder at the moment. Wayfinder is undergoing an enforced move of servers, but this inconvenience now, will allow us to plan further changes. Shortly you will be receiving details of the new URL we are moving to and at that time we would ask you to move over and delete your old favourites. At the same time the GLASS/LARA/TRF websites etc will all move their links over as well.
In the meantime its just possible that we might make a mistake and break something, so please bear with us for a little while and expect the odd gremlin. We also need to move the large volume of lane and user data over. Please let us know if you find a buglet.
To this end we would ask you NOT to put data or user evidence into the old site (green background) for the time being, but to save it for inclusion on the new site (new colour!!). This is to allow us to back off the old data and transfer it which is hard to do if its open for editing.
The new server will allow us to improve and add new functionality to Wayfinder, support a larger user base and better graphics. We think you will like the changes planned.
Thanks for your assistance in this.

NEW EMAIL AND MAKE ME FEEL NO MORE COMFORTABLE IN FACT I FEEL MY DETAILS ARE COMPROMISED. F**KING RANK AMATEUR IDIOTS. Who is telling truth?
Dear Wayfinder User,
We recently notified you that Wayfinder is moving and we can now confirm that we are open for business as normal at the new address of http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk. We have changed the background colour to grey to help you check you are on the correct site.
We said that it was an enforced move of server and we have issued instructions for all copied user files and data to be deleted but at the time of writing the previous site is still operating using those unauthorised files. We believe that an individual or group has attempted to wrest control of Wayfinder from GLASS and the Wayfinder Management Team. In fact we have experienced attempts to hack the new site, which have been unsuccessful and reported to the relevant authorities.
For the old site to continue to operate and allow GLASS/TRF and existing members to login, copies of personal information files must be in use and we are taking steps to stop this unauthorised use.
Notices have been put up on the old site suggesting that the site has not moved. This is not true. Please note the official signatories below and please feel free to check out ownership of the new site using the internet's WHOIS facility ( http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=wayfinderproject.co.uk for you non techies). The address given is that of a GLASS Executive member
Please ensure that you only use the new URL address. You may now use and enter data on the new site. Please let us know if you have any problems.
Thanks for your patience and understanding

Contact Glass direct, using an e-mail you know to be correct. This could be some group out to disrupt the Glass/Wayfinder organisations etc, using either method of either sending out false e-mails to everyone they can find on the website, or by forcing the organisation to move while retaining all the existing information. (the second option is more likely to happen if their has been a split int he management of the organisations rather than outside forces.
With regard to the data held, they have to comply with the data protection act. Not sure what information is held on users/members, as this will determine the level of the act applies to things.

I can log into both www.way-finder.co.uk (http://www.way-finder.co.uk) and www.wayfinderproject.co.uk (http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk/) but I have not had the emails from wayfinderproject or GLASS, I do not know why as I am a member of GLASS and Wayfinder.

I am a CRAG member and have access to www.way-finder.co.uk (http://www.way-finder.co.uk) and as a GLASS member I have access to www.wayfinderproject.co.uk (http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk) but as I have said I have not recived any of the emails saying it was/is moving to www.wayfinderproject.co.uk (http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk) but I do know it looks the same on both sites. Just with another colour. I do theres lots going on in the back ground, but I do not know the facts so can not comment on it.

I have this from the GLASS forum with permission of Ross.
On balance I hope it'd be useful though. Please make clear its my individual view as a WMT member, not a considered WMT statement. As you may know, at one other WMT member has a very different view!
cheers

I dunno if this helps, hinders or confuses people; but I'll repost something on put on the Wayfinder internal support board.
"will the real Wayfinder please stand up?"
I'll try to address that underlying issue. Today, there are two copies of Wayfinder in existance. Clearly the whole point of Wayfinder is to be a single UK wide resource, so that doesn't help anyone! Both "sides" in this have a strong drive to resolve that, both sides have more or less strong claims on "ownership". You can guess it can't be sorted without friction, and there's lots of potential for claim and counterclaim.
Ultimately, Wayfinder is for its users, and contains data put there by its users for its users.
This copy here, www.wayfinderproject.co.uk (http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk), is operated by Wayfinder Management Team (the WMT originally referred to), a body which is dominated by people elected from within GLASS, and includes appointees from other organisations. GLASS Ltd, as a legally recognised body, runs and audits the treasury and takes responsibilities under e.g. Data Protection Act. WMT is of course committed to ongoing development of Wayfinder - that includes the membership as well as programming features.
Membership of this version is open to several thousand members of RoW groups for free, discounted to a few thousand more. But anyone agreeing to the terms can use this version, without being a member of any organisation, by paying a small fee.
I think that's pretty "real" - but then I would, I'm on the WMT! Wayfinder users are being presented with a choice and must make up their own minds.

I'm sticking with the site/domain I signed up with.
FAQ 50 : I am confused by recent Wayfinder events!
The last few months have been a turbulent time for Wayfinder and this has had an effect on many users. Wayfinder would like to firstly appologise for the stress and inconvienience that this has caused but, furthermore offer some explanations about recent events.
All of the recent issues have been caused by a fundemental misunderstanding that has taken place on the part of The Green Lane Association - GLASS ( see http://www.glass-uk.org/ ). When the plan for creating Wayfinder was first envisaged, GLASS was offered free access for all its members which was initially declined but later accepted. However GLASS over time made a presumption that they owned Wayfinder which has never been the case.
Once GLASS' lack of ownership had been challenged a few individuals took offence and decided to set up a clone site. However this clone site is operating outside of the permission of Wayfinder and is contrary to the copyright and interlectual property rights that exist for Wayfinder.
In short there is only one official Wayfinder - the one you are looking at presently. If you have any doubts about this please see the information on Ian Boddison's website (the author of Wayfinder):
