Finally done the Wayfarer for the first time yesterday (Sunday) :D :D

Great trip, nice and easy track (didn't get the chance to test my new diff guards). It was a bit of a mess at the top, churned up bomb hole etc... :(

Started the route Geo took me in Decmeber, up at Glyndyfrdwy was going to go over Bryn Du but missed the turn (time I got me gps as all the lanes around there look the same  ).

Finally made it to Llanarmon DC then the Wayfarer, came out on the top arm just by Cynwyd. Being so close I had to go through the river at Corwen before heading home :)

Took my 15 year old son with me for his first green lane trip, he wasn't too impressed but, with practice I think he will make a fine gate opener :D :D

Can't wait to do it again, next time I will try the phesant steps as well, see if I can stay on 4 wheels this time :D :D

Should have said I would have come and met you. It is a mess on the top where people keep going of line.

Would have done but it was a very much a last minute, Sunday morning, I am bored sort of thing...

Half way along, miles from anywhere I did wonder if it was wise to be just me and the lad on an unknown route

It was nice and easy though, image you would have no trouble with a Freelander...

Saw that on your post yesterday - almost makes you want to ban 4x4's :(

Makes it easy for the antis...

Hello, :)
I've just joined. I do have a Landy, but it doesn't go off road all that much! I know the Wayfarer and it's quite stoney for my 4X4 ;)! We went for two days over to Glyn Ceiriog and came back down the Wayfarer into Cynwyd on the second day. I do wonder why some of the commercial companies doing off roading go and dig 'fords' in tracks and make it difficult for others. On the up side we can all share knowledge of routes, but we must be responsible and find out what classification they have from the DM before we use them.

Hi Jenni,

Welcome to this forum. Where are you from and whats your LR?

The Wayfarer is quite an easy route, by mosy peoples standards. As for ging "fords" I think what you are loking at are either water run off (there is a proper name for them) or just pot holes. I have driven the Wayfarer in a totaly standard 93 disco with road tyres. I did quite a few lanes last nigh (got home 2.20 am) and I would have never have taked a standard disco down them, but one of our group did (just with mud tyers fitted) and he only had to be pulled outonce in Poo City (you will know why if you ever go there). He only ended up with one dent and a lot of straches!!

Sorry mate, spur of the moment type thing...

Thinking of doing it again next Sunday if i can presuade my son (gate opener) to come - since our trip down the phesant steps () my wife isn't too keen to go off road - can't think why

Wouldn't mind another go at the the phesant steps as well if I had company - and mountain rescue on standby :D :D

Shall we see if we can get 1 or 2 more for a wee jaunt round north wales?

Hi Paul,
I live near Cerriydrudion, not all that far from your area. I have a blue 1995 300tdi hardtop with pirelli scorpion tyres which it came with. Its got about 63,000 miles on the clock. I tow with it. I think going offroading wouldn't do anything for the arthritis in my neck! My usual 4X4 has feet and is a lot more confortable. She is a chestnut Arab mare!!

I run a website called Equine Ramblers UK and have a keen interest in places off the beaten track. There is some animosity between groups like greenlaners and ramblers but I think we have in common the interest in routes and maps. I also run a B&B and we like to encourage the outdoor pursuits customers.

I have request a reciprocal link with Cragg and offered posting of green lane repair dates.

Hi,

Not to far, as for green laneing, as long as you know what the routes are like and drive slow (5 mph). You should be ok. I was up your way just before christmas laneing.

Have you seen what they have done in the Dyfant Forest for horses? Looks quite good.

Who did you email about a link? So I can chase it up for you.

I emailed the Chairman of cragg. I received an email this morning. I haven't seen what they have done in the Dyfnant forest but will look on the web. If you come this way and want to stay B&B email me. The website for the B&B is http://www.brynawelbnb.co.uk. Got to go. Housework beckons. Back soon!!

Nice web site including link to David Mitchell’s Landcraft :)

If I had a horse and was on a trek it would be ideal!

Your other site http://www.equineramblersuk.com/ also looks good - interesting to see issues faced by other users of the countryside and as you say we have a common interest in routes and maps

Never even knew about long distance riding etc...

jenniwren

Thanks. Long distance riding has been around for some time. The internet has made things a lot better. B&B's for horse and rider have blossomed recently because of it and the down turn in Farming. Farmers looking for diversification.

The only thing I would say for 4X4 off roading is the ruts and wear caused by wheels. Horse riders and walkers go into more remote places to get away from traffic and then find its been there! I think each pursuit should have an insight into others and not work against the flow.
