View Full Version : Who's half-inched the box?

The box put at the top of the Wayfarer a few weeks ago by CRAG has gone missing. It's either been wrenched away from its mountings, or been unscrewed and the screws replaced.
What sort of reason could be behind this behaviour?
A group of about twelve cyclists were most unhappy at its removal, so it's not just us who disapprove!

Christ, is there anything people wont steal nowadays. its all getting a bit rediculous really isn't it. i had a car cover stolen the other week, it was a cheap plastic one covering a battered mondeo estate i was stripping, i mean wheres the point in stealing that.
out of interest where was this box located ?

The box was at the Wayfarers North Wales just outside of Llanarmon-Dyffryn-Ceiriog. I have just found it was not there yesterday. But it was put there with screws and plugs. The head of the screws were rounede off to stop removal.

The box, the last one was there for about 30 years, was just for people to put their names in and to leave comments. A lot of people have used it.
I have just spoken to someone who was up there yesterday, hes local. He has said he did not see it, but seems to remember seeing something like a ammo box under the old roof of the old hut that is ther. I will take a drive up there tomorrow morning to see.

I feel a rant coming on, anyone know a cure.
I'd better go to another thread.

I remember there was plenty of disgust when the old box went missing - can't remember if it was on here or Difflock (probably both)...
I have seen references to the box in cycle route books so I am not surprised by Hoodoo saying a group of about twelve cyclists were unhappy at its removal :(
Haven't done the route yet...
I will take a drive up there tomorrow morning to see.

... you're a lucky man being able to get out there on a Monday :D
If I didn't have 3 meetings I can't get out of I would happily offer my assistance...

Remember being self employed - really miss the freedom at times but the regular pay day (usually) makes up for it :D
Only get the chance to play on Sunday's now :(
If you're ever going that way on a Sunday I'd be happy to tag along...

Hi All,
I have been up the Wayfarer this morning. I found the box under the old roof off of the shed. I will post some pics later.
More to the point the books were still in the box.

Hi All,
As some of you will know the box on top of the Wayfarer, North Wales was vandalised and removed from where The Countryside Recreational Access Group (CRAG) had replaced it after the old one that had been there for about 30 years had been vandalised. I went up there this morning to see it I could find it. I did find it as you can see in picture 2, picture 1 is where it was removed from.
The other pictures, 3 and 4, are the state of the box. Lucky enough the signing books were still in the box, so not lost this time.
I (CRAG) will do my/our best to get box fixed back in place by the weekend. Hopefully it will stay in place this time.
Paul
PS If you can not see the pics then pm me an email address and I will send them.

Thanks for the offer. I am hoping to either put 3 mm metal plates inside the box or put a new box there, if I can get/make one. I have a good drill and a 800w inverter. It all depends on how much they want to remove it.
It was remover after the 21-1-06, thats the last date in the book, and the 28-1-06.
Only time will tell.

I might ask Richard at Mill Services if he can make one for me. I have do a little work for him this week, so it will be a swap. But I think the one I have recovered will be ok now I have strightened it.

Hi All,
I have not replaced the box as yet. Reason for this that Richard, from Mill Services has offered to make a new one. It is going to be from 4mm plate. As soon as it is made then I will go and fix it down.

Nice one :D :D
Can it be set into a big lump of concrete rather than fixings which could be a weak link?
