Went laning today with LandyV8 & co. (some are members on here  )
Great day out....
V8 110
V8 90
3 x V8 rangies
4.0 j**p cherokee
oh and a diesel disco :p
Doing our bit for the oil industry ;)
We split into 2 groups and did the same lanes leaving a gap in between. Among those we did were the wayfarer and the pheasant pen steps....
All a bit slippery today especially for those on road tyres (malcolm and steve :p )but was very impressed with the macho's on our rangie.
Some pics for you are attached :)

I was pulling the jeep. It was only down to the fact that cherokee's have skid plates underneath as standard which decreases the ground clearance so over a long lane he couldnt keep the momentum up.
However it does mean over short obstacles he could hit things at speed and not worry about bending things when we would...
Oh and he had road tyres on which dont grip icy mud too well  :p

Looks like you lot had a good day. Don't ever underestimate a Jeep. Yes they may be a Jeep, but they're still decent off-roaders. :)

Looks like a fine dayout JJ, clad you managed the steps safely :D :D
Your jeep towing looks like the lane just at the top of the steps - ruts were very deep when I went through a few weeks ago so I am not surprised someone got stuck ;)

I think those steps are a bit dodgy with a short wheel base....piece o pi55 in a rangie :p :D
Yes, the ruts are certainly deeper than last time i was there....both ours and malcolms rangies were dragging their diffs along most of the top section....and as for the cherokee.... :D

I notice from your pics that you had spotters - big help...
Steps could have been an ideal test for your new rocksliders if you had taken the 110 :D :D
I spent the day fixing the dents from my slip on the steps :( :(

I didnt even catch the sills on the rangie so the 110 sills wouldnt have been anywhere near the rocks

No complaints, can't fault him, it just helps to have more bodies about (especially if you decide to take a roll  )

Thanks for starting the thread James. We had a great day out. It was very very cold. We just popped out above the clouds on the Wayfarer so we warmed up quickly as the sun was lovely and warm. At the end of the wayfarer we stopped for a pub lunch in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, I can’t remember what the pub was called but we had some great food. Anyway here are my pictures.

We met a convoy on the Wayfarer of 11, yes eleven vehicles. We stopped at the top for a coffee to let them get on with it and keep out of our way. We managed to bump into them again about 2 hours later on another track but this time they where coming the other way. Luckily there were plenty of passing places so again we stopped and let them get out of our way. Not all vehicles are in the photo but you get the picture.

Looks like his. I have seen out a few times with 7, but never with that many. He use to split into 2 groups if there was a lot on his trips.

I nearly forgot to mention. I hadn’t driven the wayfarer for about 12 months and what a great improvement. Lots of work has been done over the summer and it was defiantly worth the wait. All the sleeper section had been repaired and all those deep water sections have been well drained. Very nice route and nice to see its being looked after. Lets just hope it stays like that…

I was up there sunday, it still needs some work. We (crag) are trying to get the local council to do something about the mud pit at the top where people keeping going into to play. Also it is starting to wash away under the small set of sleepers and undet the one end of the big set.
As for Keith (simply4x4) it must have been a good day 11 x £25 = £275 worth getting out of bed for.

Yah I had a look at that. Very nasty there. No one had driven thought that bit when I looked as all the water was still frozen so it’s good that the simply4x4 lot managed to stay on the track.

If that was Keith, he and I are about to fall out.
Paul, that mud pit at the top - am I correct in thinking it's just over the border in Denbighshire? And, have you had any response yet? Denbighshire are usually pretty good.

Hi,
I am not personaly dealing with it, Dave Rogers (the chairman of crag) is but I do think he is getting somewhere. We did meet a north wales policeman up there a few weeks ago about doing something about it and that it is in the pipeline.
As for Keith, than I was not there but looking at the pic and hearing about it then I am almost sure it was him.
