Hey folks,
Thought I'd post some pictures from a recent trail run. These are taken in the Rocky Mountain House region which is the foothill area just east of the Rocky Mountains here in Alberta. We were out scouting some trails for the dealer for a camping event they wanted to do next year.

This area was quite steep despite how the picture looks. In rainy weather, this could be rather tricky.

This area we were scouting was used by the Jeep Jamboree guys and this particular area was quite torn up by them. Even the by pass routes were very rutted so two of us just went through the mud hole.

LOL, those pictures are just of the trail head! Wait until you see our destination.
Yea, I know we're fortunate but the gov't and environmental groups are starting to get tough in some areas. There's another area closer to the Rocky Mountains that are being closed down. Almost 98% are proposed to be shutdown in but it's a fairly high traffic area. Lots of quads and dirt bikes use it as well as 4x4's.

We went through the first mud hole but the second one looked a lot deeper so we went around it. The by pass though wasn't much better though, we ended up coming around and driving through the side of the mud hole to get out.
Oh yea, the fallen tree pics were near the trail head. Good thing one of us brought a chain saw with us or it would have been a short day.

This is the top of the mountain we were aiming for.
If you look in the 3rd picture, on the left side at the top of the peak of the mountain if you look real hard, you'll see what's left of a fire look-out station. We ended up driving further up the trail (you can see it ahead of us) until we came to the clearing you see and walked the rest of the way to the fire station as the trail narrowed too much for the trucks to pass, besides the fact that it was too dangerous to drive. You can't see it but the drop offs go all the way to the bottom so you'd be rolling for quite a long time before you came to a stop.

These are pictures of us on the way out.
Hope you enjoyed a bit of the Canadian Rockies...well the foothills to be specific. The Rockies are a smidge bigger. :)
BTW, the two Disco's are stock. The Defender has a 2" lift otherwise stock (except it has a Brazilian 2.8L turbo diesel). The silver Disco is a dealer truck that a salesman came with us in and the blue Disco is mine. Nothing special on it, just guarding and AT tires but everything else is stock.

Thanks. It was a fun day. To give you an idea of what that area is like, on my way out there I had to stop 3 times for deer running across the road.
The trailhead is right off the main gravel road (actually there's trails and cutlines running off the main road everywhere so lots to explore). When we got to the trailhead we were looking for, there were a couple of young guys unloading some quads off their trailer for the day and you should have seen the look on their faces when they saw us drive off the main road into the trailhead and disappear into the woods. They were there at the end of the day when we came out all covered in dust and mud. Had a kind of bewildered look. :p

Al, piccies look great. You may have two more to drive with next year, that is if my SIII ever gets back on the road and I can survive the trip from Med Hat:rolleyes: .

Thanks Stu!
Sure the more the merrier. That'll be great if you can get the SIII up and running although it's a fair drive to Edmonton from the Hat isn't it??
Love the SIII's though. Very cool trucks. Almost bought one instead of the Defender but the seller wanted too much. More than what I paid for the Defender although I do have to restore it so most likely cost more in the end.
Get a chance to do any wheeling in the Hat?

When's this trip taking place? And who's it with?
Now then, decisions, decisions........... 110 or Series1? Or both? Plus Unimog for recovery duties.....

Any more news on when this might be taking place?
Finally managed to get Stus' Santana running last weekend. Got my brake shoes for the Series1 so I can finish that and get it registered. A friend of mine has just bought a 101 and I've sold my Stage1 to another friend.
So that's 4 of us may be able to join in the fun whenever it happens.
Failing that, we'll just head up on our own and have our own little "do".
