Hi fellows,

It's been a while since I've been on here. As some of you know, I've been looking for a Defender for a while and finally came up with something. This is a project truck but she's straight (frame and most of the panels) and in very good shape. Here's a few pictures of "Willow".

Its membership includes adherents of all the major spiritual traditions as well as those who have other spiritual sources for their commitment to nonviolence.

How do CDNrover looks like you got your work cut out for yer. What are you going to do, put it back to what it was or convert it in to a mean trail machine?

I noticed the "IFOR" letters too but I don't think it's related to the site you referenced Pete. I did some digging and I believe it's more along the lines of the below link as this is an ex-MOD unit from the UK I have:

http://www.army.mod.uk/aroundtheworld/bos/

At least I hope that's what it is and not the other link you posted!

Hey Geobloke. My intention is to actually make this rig into a civilian Defender sort of like the one in the picture here. It's not going to be an "authentic" Defender where it's down to the exact details (I don't have that kind of money :(). It's going to probably have some cues from NAS Defenders and some cues from UK Defenders depending on what's present on the truck and what I can get my hands on. I have a small budget to work with so I can't really go crazy. As for a "mean trail machine" :), most likely nothing crazy. I do more camping and fishing type stuff as well as driving on logging roads so something to get me to and from but that I can turn around and drive it daily to work.

So far from what I can see, a stock Defender with some decent tyres, will be more than capable for me. It's definitely a long process though. Those pictures you see above are from when I started stripping the paint off of it and I kid you not, there's like 10 layers of paint on that thing!

Nice collection of Rovers Al. Is that RPB's shop or yours? Maybe you should PM me as I may be able to help you out with some stuff;) .

Hey Stu,

Thanks...but no not all those are mine (I wish). Only the ugly yellowy one is. The other 3 are my friends (he's the guy sitting on the ATV). He's got another 3 Defenders out in the back he's going to restore. He plans to do a 5-door County 110 in the spring. In fact, the County shell you see on Rock Island Rovers website that is sold is sold to my friend. The white/tan 110 you see way in the back is one he's doing to go to Brazil. He just finished putting a Brazilian 2.8L turbo diesel in it. The blue 90 ST you see too also has one of those Brazilian engines in it (awesome engine). The grey 110 has a n/a diesel like mine. He's selling that grey one so if you know anyone who's interested, let me know.

No that's definitely not RPB's shop. They don't have one. They operate out of their basement/house and do strictly parts. That shop is my friends (ATV guy) on his property. It's his "hobby shop" (biggest one I've ever seen).

Yea, I'll PM you as I do need some stuff for my 90.

Thanks.

How does he get those 2.8's into Canada? Is he a dealer or something? How much are they and whats the cost of getting them in? And were are you getting all these Def's from? I know, so many questions.

Hey guys,

Yea that's really nice shop. Wish I had one too but he's letting me do my whole restoration in his shop so can't complain.

So swag, you have any neighbors come by asking about all your Rovers?? LOL

Stu, I'll talk to you offline about those 2.8's. As for the Defenders, they're all ex-MOD Defenders. There's a couple places here in Edmonton that carry them so he pics them up there but he also has contacts in BC and in Montana that he occasionally gets them from. At the moment, he's got the 4 (well, one of them is mine now) you see in the picture plus another 5 or 6 sitting in the back area (including an ambulance). I think two of them though are someone elses he's storing for them. A few years back I also came across about 10 Defenders (90's and 110's) that were at an auction in Calgary so I know they show up from time to time.
