After a tip off from V8darren i had a look at the map for some green lanes around littleport/Ely. Blow me, there are loads.
Today i went on a solo mission to have a look at a few. I very nearly got in trouble (ie stuck)! Fortunately, i quick reckie on foot showed it was a good idea to proceed forward - so the hole i managed to get stuck in while reversing wasn't a problem!
I didn't go down most of the lanes i tried because my "plough" got me well and truly stuck and i only have AT tyres on.
It was well worth the trip - i did find some lanes that were no problems - but i am lookng forward to tackling them all when i go out with someone else (who can pull me out!).
Two things. 1) I need to take off my tow bar. I keep getting stuck when it digs in the ground. (Those tractors make very deep troughs!). 2) I need to get some MT's before my next trip!
Anyone else got any info on lanes in this area ?
Thanks
Ringo

Hee Hee, thats the spirit. I will post on here next time i am planning to go out (and it won't be long!).
V8darren is planning a route - and if his Thetford forest trip is anything to go by then it will be awesome!
Now to get those MT's!

Anyone for a trip out on Sunday ? Westy ? Nothing planned - just turn up and follow the map.
Was thinking of just spending a few hours investigating.
Should be fun.

Sunday the 4th? Was planning to go to Tixover quarry but could go laning instead yeah.
Brilliant stuff. I can't get out till about 11 if thats ok. I realise you may not want to bother starting that late - just let me know and we can arrange it for another time. Drop me a Private Message (PM) and i will give you my phone number.
I will have another look at the map tonight but there is loads to do round here.
I don't think we will run in to many problems but there will be mud!
Do you have a CB or a walkie talkie ?
Looking forward to it (and trying out my new MT's!)
Rich
PS - your private messaging is not switched on.
he needs 10 posts for his pm to work....

Update:
Me and Westy went out today - just the two of us (although at times we wished we had someone else to pull us out!). My wife and i were in our 110 and westy was in his disco.
I had planned a route which on reflection was huge. We only made it around half - but we only had 4 hours at it.
Its very flat around here but the lanes are made of very thick peaty mud. The tractors make massive rutts - which are sometimes unpassable. Westy towed me out of one which i'm sure a more experienced driver would have been able to navigate through/around. Begrudgingly. we had to reverse the track as we couldn't!
Westy got well and trully stuck in a lot of mud. Eventually, with a lot of pulling and thinking (and panting and swearing!) we managed to get the disco out. It was a great sense of acheivement having got out of this situation - we had thought the worst!
Other challenges were traversing lanes without sliding into a dyke, learning how to get out of rutts (it aint always possible is it!) and general driving in mud. Westy has some experience of vehicle recovery and my wife and i were grateful to learn all we could!
An excellent day out - and as yet, i don't think anything broke! However, my shopping list is getting bigger.......

Was an excelent day was great to meet Ringo and Hayley. Incase anyone was worried about the condition of the lanes they all had a firm base under that sludgy mud top coat and we wasnt doing any damage especially compared to a tractor!! Still cant belive got stuck tho and i got got it well and truely planted :D for a while i was rather worried i wouldnt get the disco out!! Cant wait for next time!!! I'll post a couple more pics tommrrow. Glad you didnt break anything Rich my power steering has stopped working on the way home :(
