Nice way to learn to use the camera:D . On Friday I took some pics of a lightweight I spotted in Jhb. Had a long chat to the owner who is ex British army and got the lightweight as part of his package when he retired and then came straight out to Africa, (Kenya Rhodesia, Mozambique and now South Africa). Uses it as his daily transport.

Put the pics in the lightweight section - have look there as I can't seem to get them up again.

What, no GP plates? Where are all the Vaalies? :D

Frank, is the Hansa Brauerei completely closed, or does it still produce a limited quantity?

Hi Marc

no Vaalies yet, they will be here soon enough!

Hansa Brewery in Swakopmund is completely closed as a brewery as from October, they now run it as depot and warehouse only.

Well they have been producing the Tafel Lager in Windhoek for some time now, it was only the Quart bottles (750 ml - :D ) and the draught that was still made in Swakop. Pity about the draught though. Bulk buying has started (not kidding) as everybody is afraid they will not have enough for the holiday season and that the beer may run out again here in Swakop. It has already happened that they needed to get beer from Gobabis depot down here, as Windhoek was running at full capacity and Swakop as well and they could not produce fast enough. Now with Swakop closed, we'll see...:(

That's really sad. You'd think that there would be a market to get the brewery up and running, making a good beer only for Swakopmund. It could be like a local micro brewery. They must have all the equipment etc.

Rule no. 1: Never run out of beer.
Rule no. 2: See Rule no. 1

:D

Hey Spysmys,

don't forget that the rainy season has not started as yet... Well Ok not here in the desert, but we do have loads of swamps in different parts of the country and mud, glorious mud when the rivers come down.

Marc,

the closing of the brewery was due to the fact that it was running a profit (no typo) but they would have had to invest substantial amounts in renovations and upgrades soon and the holding company (NBL with Olthaver & List) doesn't have the capital. BEE at work again...;)

Geo,

we have a couple of those as touring cars for tour operators. There is also one company here in my town that uses 130 triple cabs, I will try and get a photo of one and post it up.

But at least you got two other red ones. Eva wouldn't be all alone.

Cheers

Hi Frank,

Nice pics. On the fifth picture, of the white (surprise, surprise) 109 outside the Model supermarket, whats the scoop on the back between the safari top and the back door? Is it aftermarket air-con or some kind of dust supression system?

Andy,

I'm not quite sure - I think it might be against dust, you see these on some older cars, to keep the dust off the back door I think.

When independence was granted way back when I was in Johannesburg Traffic Dept and we brought up a large contingent of personnel to escort foreign dignitaries from the airport to Windhoek. This was in March and I nearly fell of my chair laughing when my associate in Windhoek said that I should ensure that we all bring rain coats! We brought them but with much tongue in cheek thinking "ja well no fine" we will play along with the joke.Boy oh boy did it rain!!!! Those lovely storms with drops the size of your fist, everything saturated and then half and hour later blue skies.Great time was had. And I preferred your Namibian Hansa to our South African variety. And just to make sure I had a few more...

Aah - ha!

Finally caught up with that triple cab, well at least extended! had a photo of one on the phone, but it wouldn't upload to the computer, so had to wait until I had the digicam with me.

Edit: Now this is the stationwagon version, still need to wait until I get the pick - up triple cabin!
