Some of you may remember a thread some time ago where I asked for people's opinions about putting a V8 into a 110, either 3.9, 4.0 or 4.6. for a project a friend of mine and myself were doing together.
Here she is, almost finished, she now has the 4.0, but still on carbs, we are still waiting for the efi and the hotter cams from England, suspension is done, wheels are done, interior is mostly done and she is resprayed with a bit of a flip flop effct (which you can't really see in the pics because the light's not very good) by adding blue flake to the clear coat.
Well here she is on her first test drive last weekend, mate of mine (her owner) came down from Windhoek to Swakopmund and we went to Sandwich Harbour, that is a natural harbour area enclosed by dunes and salt plains right along our coast.
The first pic is of "groen padda" as she is affectionately called (the green frog) powering up a dune, this was a about thirty / fourty meter slipface up from a harder shoulder below.
The other two pics show why one should not attempt to cross a salt pan. Looked perfectly hard and dry from some distance away, travelling at around 80 km/h she came to a dead stop within about 30 meters. I was driving the "recovery" vehicle (a Hilux, don't ask, it's not mine) at the time but couldn't reach the landy to attach the snatch strap, would have got stuck as well. So much digging ensued with expletives uttered and she was out after about half an hour.
To give you an idea of how deep in she was - she has a 2 inch lift and those tyres are 32x11.5/15's...
Much fun was had.
She is now just missing a couple of accessories still and then she is ready for Angola in January.
:D
