basically is a 1600kg enough to use with the Disco with a snatch block or do I bite the bullet and look for a 3200kg to allow plenty of margin,
also how much do they go for 2nd hand.
and was it sept when LROI did the winch test as this is the one I cannot find?

The rating of 1600kg is for a lift, so multiply by 3 for a pull, so plenty I should think. Mine has 10mm cable and is strong enough, but I can't remember the rating. They are about £300 new, so depends on condition. New cables are about £40 I think. Found mine in the shed when I moved in, yippee. Useful for pulling stumps, and most recently pulled a 1tonne cambridge roller sideways off a trailer with it.
Be careful not to kink the first foot of the cables as you'll never feed it through, which I did! I welded the cable a foot further down, then cut it with a grinder to get rid of the kink. Also keep it stored in an old motorcycle tyre held in with a couple of bungys, get a worn tyre from a tyre shop or bike dealer for nothing.
Get spare shear pins too, as mine had dropped out into the mud first time I used it, so it didn't work! If they are loose hold em in with gaffer tape.
