Took the Mrs and Hound for a stroll around Castleton today. Walked up Chapel Gate which appears drive able...

Anyone driven it recently?

Hi all I'm spending my last day of '07 holiday in your lovely neck of the woods, this Friday. Me and a pal are looking at following the route in Total Off Road's April '03 issue. Does anyone know of this route, if so is any of it shut this time of year? I have a pdf copy of it, but i'm not sure if i'm allowed to attach it.

If anyone else is about and wants to join us, no problem. we're looking to get there early and do a full day.

Cheers!

Thanks for offering, but the file is about 5meg so doubt i'll be able to post it. Widget has PM'd and offered to have a look, so should be OK. Cheers anyhow!

Looks like a good route using a nice selection of lanes. For anyone else with the same route just a few notes...

Only one lane has been closed by NERC from 14 to 21 (quarry traffic still uses this route though). Instead turn left at point 14 and continue straight on through Rowland Village and pick up the original route at Point 26.

The distance between points 59 and 60 is 0.4 of a mile, not 1.4 miles.

Crucial – at point 103 turn left – not straight on!!

well it was pretty much a trouble free day, apart from almost running out of gas and having to use the expensive stuff. Widget got lots of praise on the way around for marking the route out for us, nice one chap! Surfaces were really good most of the way around, and the only lane which we didn't do was the one which starts at 134758, as it said it was a public bridal way. Stanage Edge was a bit of a challenge, top tip again form widget to get some waffle boards or similar, can't see how to get over them rocks without them. Looks like some have tried and taken some masonry with them.

Pitty that doobreydog couldn't make it, my mate should be heading up that way again in a few weeks and i'll get him to drop you a mail, or i'll try and get up there again in the new year, as i'm intrigued as to what your machine can do.

should have taken more pics but were having way too much fun. You may notice I'm quite keen on seeing my new buper too :)

If anyone wants the TOR route or the marked map which widget has done let me know your email and i'll forward.

That lane you didn't do is marked as a UCR on the map but is part of the Pennine Bridleway, may have had a bridleway added removing its rights as a UCR in the process.

Stanage is a fun lane, I've done it twice (both times without boards), with a spotter to help it can be done without boards, the key is at the start of the rocky bit go hard left into the bank then hard right over the first rock then left again before going right and getting wheels up onto the rocks.

I did a little damage the first time I did it but had learned by the second encounter.

It can be fun in a Disco, when I first did it they realy struggled despite big lifts and good tyres. Short wheel base wins on Stanage.

If you want a good challenge have a go at the lanes around Tenterhill and Hollinsclough. No one escapes those without damage. They make the rocks on Stanage look small.

Can anyone reccomend good 4x4 friendly campsites in Central/North Derbyshire...

Main Priorites....
Will be needed for groups of 20/30ish vehicles/tents.
Good beer/food nearby
Allow dogs and the odd ankle snapper/rugrat
Allow a fire/bbq etc
Will probably need space for a few caravans as well.

Any suggestions very welcome...preferably cheap as well

Cheers.

When was the last time a laneing day was aranged?

I have made friends with a bloke from another site:o (Dave Lowe)
he has an extensive knowlege of derbyshire lanes and is willing to be a leader (not wishing to offend anyone of corse)
although he isn't up to date with the changes to lanes ie rupps and all that so if we could all get together a list of closed lanes etc
and i could email them to him
and maybe just maybe we can get the Derbyshire Greenlaners back up and running
What say you lot:):)

cool, what I need to do is compile a list of lanes, that are basicaly closed to us now.
I will then email dave so he can update his brain, LOL:D
I'm hopeing to bring him over to this site, so i will send him a link.

oh, I will be selling the old girl this year and going over to coils :(
anyone want an A class merc too
the sale/swop of the merc will buy a coiler and the sale/swop of my s3 will gain a 4/5 berth caravan,so we can travel.

Been out now and again .
There is a few closures in derbyshire at the moment and finally they are listed on the website for the National Park.
Stanage is a right mess at the moment and if it carries on it will surely be closed.
Tenterhill is closed and not due to reopen until November 2009.
Whilst it is closed it's future is being considered, bollards are going to be used to keep 4x4 vehicles off the lane during the closure.

My interest has waned and been doing more walking and finding dales I have never been to.

Oh yeah can't disagree there.
The peaks does get busier now with vehicle use after a lot of the surrounding areas lost a lot of lanes.
A lot of the lanes are getting trashed and there is even more very visible evidence of off lane use.You can't miss the damage being done, not something I want to be associated with really.Association being people making massive assumptions when they see you out and about.
The Peak park authority does do a lot more monitoring now.

As for Greenlaners going again ?
Its not something I go out to do anymore but will offer any advice and lane info by PM only .I might even have a trip out one day.

Hi all

I have just recently secured a job in Derby and as such will be living in Derby (not far from Pride Park) for a while. But I have been a member on here for a while (normally based in the North west).

I would very much like to either go with others, or having read some of the post regarding lane clousures could anyone tell me where the nearest open green lanes are to where I am based - or surrounding area's
(any form of water crossing is a huge bonus) :D

Any info on the above will be very greatfully recieved

Thanks in advance

SNOW.... 7th Jan 09

Had a great run out across the peaks yesterday, ice bit of snow and plenty of ice.....Has been snowing quite a bit since at lower levels so would assume the higher Moors are even better now.

I'm hoping to get out again before snow melts (probably tomorrow if poss.) and do some simple lanes (Houndkirk/Shatton etc). If anyone is interested in joining me then get in touch and tell me when you can make it....where your from and a contact number. (my Mob o7784o98o51)

Lanes will be suitable for most motors with decent tyres (im in lifted Freelander)

Go on you know you want to....Have a Benelyn Day:D
