me mate Si the photographer tagged a long! Was taking a photo of us going thru a muddy puddle...jeff went thru and got him on his leg, I went thru and made atleast a good old splash covring him. Didn't speak to again till i bought him a pint!
did think of you lot today in this weather, sounds like a good un...who fell over then, and in what.?
You missed an excellent days laning ada:p
We were shouted at, abused and chased by irate hillbillies...Living proof that marrying a close relative for a few generations is fraught with social problems, not just extended lower jaws and bulging foreheads....Did you watch "Deliverance"???..."Squeal like a pig! boy"...Lanin landy only just escaped with his sphincter intact
Watched Derbysred and laninlandy testing the roll-over angle on the same slippery side slope while being abused by the above. Enjoyed some excellent laning and witnessed the resident professional photo jockey stand too close to a muddy water splash.....Twice:D
And the weather was perfect:D

that lane between back of Mungo's and the derlict landy, i've done that when i first had Betty, thats a good un, nice and long....

Luckily we had no problems with the locals and the ramblers/walkers were OK most smiling with a look of amusement .
We found Saturday's red-socks very friendly..To be honest I have generally found them OK. I always slow right down or even stop for them, give them a wave or a bit of chat.
With very few exceptions a smile or friendly hello is returned. The exception is usually from some hatchet faced old harridan in plus fours, or an old bloke with a face full of broken veins and a bobble hat...
Now the resident Hillbillies we came across....different story:eek:

It was an entertaining day ..That SLIDE slope was a treat , being shouted at by some mad man and then starting to slide down the bank trying to get straight , hoping for traction and listening to a lunatic :D :D ..
The water splash photo part of the day had me laughing , i was peeing myself when i was coming through watching him diving out of the way of a wall of mucky cow poo infested water :D :D ...

Sorry doobreydog, I didn't log on again last night so didn't see your post. You would have been welcome as we had a couple of Disco 1's, a 110, a 130 and a Series IIA with us - I rescued the 110 after it grounded out in front of me on an absolute stinker of a lane into the back of Bamford (NOT the steep straight one) :D
The 110 also bought a sliced front tyre on the Roych! :(

Its the lane that runs from ESE from Gatehouse - it starts proper just after the second spur (to Nether Hurst) marked Unsuitable for Road Vehicles - its named Hurstclough Lane. It took some serious foliage and branch clearing to get down it - and just before you get to the brook the rutting is so bad that the 110 got stuck on its rear diff.
Did you notice any change to the scenery in the quarry at Pindale...Piccy below...was easier to tow the rock out of the way
Saw the pool - no one was up for it. We got talking to a Quad Biker in that quarry though - he couldn't get up Pindale and claimed we'd never make it! There is a LOT of earth moving machiney at Dirtlow Rake now - the largest of the spoil heaps is virtually gone - looks completely different from 8 weeks ago.

That back lane into Bamford Doobrey is the one i took us down and we had to clear the tree ..
If someone managed to ground out down there with a 110 then i wouldn't take them anywhere with ruts ...lol
Roych clough is also a dual status lane and possibly closed to vehicles (don't bother asking the council ) , be careful where you go !

That lane from Bamford is fun, I struck the rear diff on my 90 on that lane in October, no damage, there are some proper wash outs on the eastern side of the stream. The rest of the lane is fine though.

Didnt think there was anythink severe around that area...thought I had missed out:D Must admit I caught my gas tank guard on a lump of old tarmac surface when I was messing with a camera but cant imagine any LR getting hung up unless there has been a lot of change in last couple of months...Had planned on going down there last Saturday but decided to do Stannage instead as it was starting to get dark....Great fun:D

All the lanes are numbered if you look carefully and we are starting at Colton Lees car park, Chatsworth. 19 lanes in all and when we did the BAD run it took about 6-7 hours including lunch stop. Might do it in reverse this time though, or some one way round some the other, see how many actually go for it nearer the time.

I don't know about the road through Stoney, thats my best route to the meet as the A6 is a pain. There isn't anything on the BBC Derbyshire travel info or DCC to say the A623 is still closed.

GREENLANING RUN, SUNDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2007
Righty oh folks, only a week to go and I am really looking forward to this one, I ain't been in the Peak District since last september.
Meet 08.30 in the morning for a 09.00 start at grid ref SK 296 670 (that silly little lane on Beeley Moor).
Anyone who is intending to come along please PM me, along with your mobile phone number, and I will put a bit of paperwork together to dish out to try and ensure we can keep in touch with one another, along with grid refs. I also need to know how many will be coming along so I can see if we need a second route to spread the load a little. Please bring maps of the area as if I need to plot a second route it will only be provided in grid ref form.
Better bring some food and drink as, although it is nice to do a pub for lunch, things rarely seem to work out properly and, anyway, the places are full of toffs scoffing beef and yorkshire pud on a sunday lunch nowadays:(
If poss please let me know via PM by wednesday cos my Internet access will be a bit limited after that as I catch the train to Derby early thursday morning.
Me and Ali will be coming along with scotana, so I will be navigating:yay: and doing gates:( and not driving:rolleyes:

So I need some convincing that it will be a day not to be missed in order to persuade me to drag myself out of bed.
Can you persuade me to come? Where will we be going and what will we be seeing?
Will it be mostly tracks through farmland or mountain tracks and great views? Sorry for all the questions but I don't know the area at all so would like to know if it will be an average days laneing or something not to be missed.

So I have had PM's from Markospondon (+ friend), Jeff, Landyzookbabe, alclark, Doodreydog, Derbysred, ada110crew (3 vehicles), Scotana, so that makes 11 vehicles so I reckon with a bit of juggling about, staggered starts, one group doing the route backwards etc one route should be sufficient.
If anyone else is planning on coming along please PM me (with mobile number) within the next 24 hours so I can printout enough maps of the route to cover the groups because I leave for Derby early thursday morning and my internet access will be limited after that and access to a printer nil:eek:

Just wondered if anyone who is along at the weekend wants to buy a Midland CB radio + aerial and clamp type mount? You can now officially take on the mantle of a "senile old git"...Next you will be forgetting to undo your flies before taking a leak:D. You will also find the bromide they fed you in the army will start to take effect:(
Being "Taken from the rear" is a risk you take when callisr is behind you under any circumstances...While busy attaching a tow rope to a bumper at a low hight you are particularly at risk, maybe its time I bought a Freeby:D

Well....did you get a couple of inches?:D
Or did you find some snow covered lanes to drive instead?
I drove from Burton to Uttoxeter last night and a 20 minute journey took 1 hour due to the snow. Dual carriage way wasn't bad but small roads were very treacherous!
All the snow seems to be vanishing before my very eyes now though:(

Mungo , being your usual smutty self :D :D .
Yup all the snow is Thawing out . Stood on top of a hill yesterday at 4pm and i haven't seen snow come down like that for years . Got covered in it in seconds , couldn't even see walking into it :D .
The gritters were out in force before 4pm , when i eventually got back my misuss's suzi and headed back onto the roads they were white out . People slip sliding all over the place .Tailgaters having little prangs and probably wondering why  .
Gave the missus a quick tutorial on how to use the low range box . Going down a steep hill with queing traffic , 1st gear low box keep your distance and crawl all the way with no need to "dab" (and slide) the brakes .
Tried 2nd gear low and it was running to quick . 1st low felt like landy 3rd low . I can conclude that landrovers have better and lower gearing than a suzi vitara .(back in 4wd high)She had a nasty habit of putting the car into 1st when the speed was a bit high for it and the front end nose diving . She wouldn't beleive me that if she did that on a paticulary slippy bit the back end will want to come round and the car would start spinning like a ballet dancer . Luckily she never got caught out.
Plenty of cars sliding around though :D . The snow came down just in time for friday evening rush hour :D

'cos it all seems to have gone quiet and LL seems keen to keep the ball rolling. We have spoken about this phenomenon, me and LL, but hopefully things will be sorted by others and the ball is kept rolling along and it will not be another idea that fizzles out.
Sorry, not trying to be stroppy or anything but it is amazing how many trips just simply do not happen:(
Talking of trips that do not happen, I might do something in mid Wales for all interested peeps - probably June:)

Its over 2 weeks from the proposed laning date. The guys that want to attend have identified themselves and details will be posted nearer the time! ;)
The only person making a song and dance out of this Tim is you. And you wont be attending, nor do you own a Landrover or live in Derbyshire

Which trips are you referring too???
None in particular but it does amaze me how many proposed trips come to nought. Don't forget I have been getting greenlaning trips together for over 20 years now and it ain't hard, so why do so many ideas seem to hit a brick wall? Maybe that is why I have sold the Landy and really don't miss it, maybe time to shut my mouth and let you youngsters get it right:)
To be honest Chris I really hope greenlaning keeps going and going and Wales this summer could be fun if anyone is interested and I can get good info.
Maybe I have just been involved too long and I should just jack it in:(

That's like saying Marlon Brando got fat and stopped doing good films in his later years. While it is true, it didn't stop him being the daddy.
