Looking forward to seeing ya all on sunday

timbott
18th Mar 2006, 21:13
What ya done Tim ???

Bust a rear halfshaft on Roych Clough, no great prob but all the antics that followed getting me off there in 4x2 in the snow the halfshaft that was broken on the outer end mashed up the stub axle so I can't get it apart without major surgery:eek:

However, picking up a replacement stub axle tomorrow, I have a halfshaft, so a bit of precision grinding and few new nuts and bolts and bits from Morley's and we should be sorted:)

Don't forget to post some pics from your trip:)

cheers, Tim

I heard about this on the radio, apparently WD stands for 'water dispersant' and '40' was the number of formulas they tried till they got what they wanted.

If you remember like I do, 'cos I'm old, it was originally called 'Rocket WD-40', the rocket bit being something to do with the Apollo space project.

Aye, good trip!

Managed to put a slit in the sidewall of the tyre at some point, came out to a flat last night :(

Also drew water into the heater at Bakewell which is now steaming all my windows up, and my engine fan's stopped working too. Bloody hell, managed to pick up a lot of damage during a gentle day's greenlaning

Looks like I'm gonna be skint for yet another month...
But hey, at least I had a reason to finally break the new hi-lift in :D

Nice to catch up with you all, and nice to meet Marsie and co. too.
Would love to have seen the look on Simon's face this morning when you presented him with your mud plastered motor...

Thanks for putting the route together Bigkid, and cheers for the beer too matey :) Oh, and good choice of final lane too... :D

Bigkid
25th Mar 2006, 18:48
Right then, been for a play today:D

Had my LR experience morning at Rockingham Castle..well should say Tixover Quarry really as thats where most of the off-roading took place.

Had a really good time, playing with a 1yr old TD5 110, boy are those diesel engines good, pull off no throttle, up hill down dale, not a problem. Traction control was broken so never came on, o what a shame.

It really has made me change my opinion about the dirty diesel...

Nah, never replace the V8 :D :D :D :D :D

If I had the money I would most definetely have a new 110.

Even got a new friend that will help me with my V8-LPG setup once I get it back from the rebuild etc.

See ya all soon,

Bigkid

Was in Bakewell the weekend, seen loads of landies about laning(lucky sod's), but the ford just outside Bakewell caused a few motors problems.....so blokes drowned his TD5 disco and the other got a 101 stuck......so i'm up for the 23rd, cause i missed out this time....

jackthedog

Hi Paul, No not picked it back up yet, do so on Saturday..:D :D

So if Lanning is planned for either this Sunday or Monday (Bank Hol;) ) then I will most def be out to play.

Yes it will still have LPG but will be running in with Petrol for the 1st 1000miles:(

Then after that will need to get LPG setup tweaked for the new Engine setup etc....Are you any good at that then:) if not matey at Land Rover Experience Rockingham has offered to help me out with the LPG setup.

So did you not hang around for yesterday's activities? Or have you got a wireless laptop in the caravan? I thought Mrs Shadyadie might be TYROing yesterday.

Trial was good, except my spectacular failure at the section running over the camel back. I almost rolled before I even reached the 9 gate. Still not sure how I managed that

Excellent weekend though. Shame the alternator ******ed up, I fancied coming back to watch Gordon in action on the TYRO :)

I have tried a couple of short, easy greenlanes local to me (New Mills) but would like to join in on some laning trips once the old girl is back in action.
Its a completely bog standard 300tdi.
Could anyone offer some advise on any basic preparation, recovery kit to carry etc. (bear in mind of course that I am going to be really skint after next week...)

Cheers,
Gary

Well when the car's ready, keep your eye on this thread and when something's happening that you want to join in, shout up!

As for preparation for gentle greenlaning, I'd say the following items are absolutely vital:

1. Packed lunch.
2. Money for a pint afterwards.

:)

Hope the gearbox rebuild goes well fella.

Last I heard, cubley matt was on the case. But not heard anything from him (or Emma for that matter) for ages...

BAD - of which you're a member - have trials and playdays on once a monthish. Why not head out to one of them? Mow Cop was a good site this weekend - I missed the playday unfortunately but the site seemed plenty big enough to have a decent mess around on. Bloody huge.

BAD - of which you're a member

Next BAD greenlane run isn't until September, July is cancelled due to lack of interest from club members, August is the GLASS greenlaning week at Ingleton which I wouldn't mind going to for one of the weekends but it will have to be in Tonka due to petrol costs:( But then again, nearer the time I will probably change my mind and go in Gordon:)

I'll sort a route for mid August maybe???

July is cancelled due to lack of interest from club members,
I didn't think they had got round to saying where it was starting from which always seems to put a few people off.
another put off was the no non landrovers that the greenlane leaders with the exception of Tim wanted to impose.
Which is a shame as it is the only fault I can pick with what is a very good club with a brilliant family atmosphere, with a lot of the members and commitee members giving up a lot of there free time to make all the events as good as they are.

That is true, but I did tell the other 2 I was having nothing to do with the July run 'cos I go on Holiday on Saturday so I won't be around so not my fault:)

August is the GLASS week at Ingleton and then BADLRC lanin' should be back on track first sunday in september as advertised.

Apologies to any folks who have added their mails to this group and had no replies - it would seem the Derbyshire laners have become a little inactive as of late.

Maybe it's due to the mysterious disappearance of Matt and Emma, maybe the imminent departure of our esteemed leader Timbott for his beloved Wales, or maybe the filthy NERC bill has just put everyone off.

Anyway, whatever the cause if anyone thinks they are man enough to take Timbotts place - to step up to the task of Derbyshire greenlane mack daddy and take the reigns - now's your chance :D

I hope someone does step in and revitalise our little greenlaning group. I won't be living anywhere near Derbyshire for much longer so if anyone wants to copy my marked maps and get something going again let me know.

Nice one Steve:ghostsmil ,you did a good job of organising the lanes when we went earlier this year so i cant think of a better man for the job;) .I guess your off road foray on sunday must have stirred up a bit of sh*t out the tank eh?Will try and get next time you go laning

Bigkid
30th Aug 2006, 22:08
Thanks Paul,

Actually the tank is clean as a nuns...swear box.,.:D only changed it a few months ago, the crap came from the fuel filter itself, the screw/spring/washers had all degraded to a slugde in the bowl, and the fact that the thing was not actually fitted correctly (the spring was inside the filter instead of in the bowl pushing the filter up etc)

New bowl assembly ordered, arrived today, will fit at weekend when I strip carbs down to give them a quick clean...hopefully this is all it will need.

AA man did say there is nowt wrong with the spark:) so must be the fuel...

And yes I have many lanes marked up from Timbotts maps, I want to visit the buxton council office and get some more definitive routes marked as there are plenty that may have been reclassified and we could get into some hot water about using some. I have been led to believe that the Bakewell ford crossing is not a good one to do now as the local 'private' residents have started to take severe offense to use using it and as soon as they 'see' a 4x4 at the side of the ford they are calling the old bill, now it will not be long before the ford is marked has a TRO placed on it and the residents 'remove' the sign deliberty so to prove a point.

If we can get a group up to visit the map office and get the lanes clarified then at least we can be 100% sure that we have every right to be where we are when we are on a lane, its my biggest fear regarding laning and it puts me off a little.

As you all may know, I am a countryside walking leader and am working towards my Mountain leader (got my Walking leader award to do first) and have an opinion on both sides of the debate.

I think as long as we are conservative with our actions and have 'the right of way' then we have nothing to be defensive about.

Does anybody have access to the wayfarers database to check up on some lanes, I plan to give us all plenty of notice of the route before hand anyways.

Right have gone off far to long, bizzare how many words I can type after a few of those magners bottles:rolleyes:

Hi Guys,

I'm afriad I am more than likely going to have to pull out of this weekends planned trip out.

I found out last night that I am required to help out with a retake of a cancelled Silver Duke of Edinburgh award. These kids had there original one cancelled due to the heatwave back in July and have been give the opportunity to complete it the same weekend as I had planned to do the greenlaning.

Now there is a possibilty that I can do both, the walk they are doing is in the Peak District anyway, so if I am not needed for walking supervisor and am only needed as 'Expedition' supervisor then I should still be able to lead you lot on few greenlanes.

I will not find out in which capacity I am required until at least wednesday at the earliest.

I will still get the route planned and let somebody have a copy of it so if you do decide to take over you already have a route etc.

I really am sorry, but the DoE award is something that I put a lot of time into as I beleive it gives Kids a fantastic opputunity to grow as individuals and team players while strengthening determination to complete things they start.
