The other group are going w/e 7 Oct but have only got 2 or 3 spaces but shouldn't be a problem if all (currently 5/6) go. Just need to leave plenty of time between groups.
Wackyone, can you make it 7 Oct?
What say you all?

The camp does have a toll bar gate installed, when we pitch up we will get coins/discs to operate it,ill pm you my mobile number nearer the time, when you get to the gate give me a ring, ill leg it over and let you in,but im thinking the gate will prob be open,if not go for the plan above ;)
Good plan Pete. However, I'll give them a bell anyway and arrange a late arrival when we have a positive date so's not to upset anyone.

Lewis, the plan is to camp at Rhayader on the fri and saturday night,on the saturday morning the plan is to travel to SN 804569 (roughly)the start of the main lane of the day (strata florida),travel the length of the lane, then head off back to rhayader, though some great countryside, before we get back to Rhayader theres a good little to be driven ;)
Then its off down the pub :D
Sunday, pack up tent, then head out to SN751 867 (roughly) to again do more good little lanes.
I can do the whole weekend on 3/4 tank of diesel....I just wondered on what you LPG guys can get out of a tank? Miles that it

200 miles on road, a lot less off road.
theres an LPG station just north of llandridod wells according to my map but its for key holders only....have you got a key lewis?

I do have a petrol option but its not running too well on petrol at the moment. LPG knackers the carbs. Ill see what I can sort out. I usual get 100 - 120 miles out a tank of LPG when off road. that’s 60 litres.

For those on LPG it is a bit thin on the ground in Mid Wales. The Key System only works if you have an account with Countrywide Stores and they bill you monthly @32p, so its not an option as the key is coded, not a paddlock/gate thing.
Best bet is filling up on route:
Coming from M5, Worcester, Gloucester the last place is Kington Farm supplies on the A44 about 25miles short of Rhayader, I think its 9-5.30 mon-sat http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=330105&y=256895&z=3&sv=330500,256500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
There is one at Leominster on the industrial estate: Nash Peugeot open Sundays 35miles from Rhayader, for your journey home? http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=349665&y=257795&z=3&sv=349500,257500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
From the northish Shrewsbury M54 the last one is A483 in Newtown at Hughes Vauxhall garage, behind the showroom, Might be open sunday? http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=311375&y=291565&z=3&sv=311500,291500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
Only other one I can think of is north of Nant-y-Moch at Furnace between Mach and Aber 7-7pm, 7days http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=268429&y=295135&z=5&sv=268429,295135&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&ax=268429&ay=295135

Actually if anyone is stuck for gas returing via/near Ludlow/Leominster, then PM me for my phone no (beforehand!) and I could meet you at the 24hr Key place 10minutes from me. Use my key/account and pay me for the gas you draw, it tells you how many litres you put in.
You could also do the Gap road thru the Brecon Beacons, its only open sept/early oct (and march). Well worth it and may make a change, lots of other good lanes round there.
Which date are you settling on?

AJ
Done the Strata plenty of times,in a loop that brings you back to Rhayader.
Route goes like this Rhayader > Newbridge on wye > Beulah then single track lane(tarred) to the beginning of the strata>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> finnish the strata at Pontrhydfendigaid, then back north towards Cwmystwyth, and back to Rhayader via the mountain road(tarred) ,that can be done in 5 hours, thats taking it easy and stopping for photos etc etc..
Carnt comment on the Gap road ive never done it,got a rough idea of its location but not sure on how to loop it up .
I reckon 5 hours is enough time in the saddle Pete. I can always check it out on the way back down on the Sunday.
Cheers.

Pics of the Gap here http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27393, not really recommended on your own AJ, just in case you get stuck at the bottom of the gullly of have breakdown.

I'd say them Jeeps need to get some more practice in ;) and be a bit more careful about what they post online, the caption on one pic talks of the hardest part of the Strata being a small step into a ford into a hole............hmm I think not ? and a pic of a Cherry spinning it's wheels in the woods is just what the anti's want to see. "See look they're destroying our lovely lanes !!" Likewise the pictures of the mud covered Jap tank on the Gap does nothing to promote our image.
The Strata and the surrounding routes are some most Scenic routes you could ever wish to drive, they're not really a challenge more a nice gentle amble in the countryside. Anyone who thinks greenlaning is to find challenges has got the wrong end of the stick and really does need to think about what they want from 4x4 driving  thats what playdays and trials are for. The reason we do it is to see the countryside in comfort and enjoy the company of like minded souls...................and most importantly to drink BEER and eat dry toast on cold damp nights under canvas in the middle of nowhere :D :D :D
See you on the 30th with a bit of luck, then you can all beat me for being such a party pooper ;)

Pete if you're going via Newbridge I hope you do this cracking river crossing
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=301595&y=258255&z=3&sv=301500,258500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
Best done east to west, approach down an alley between houses and follow down to 2 gates, go through righthand one. In down a 3' bank and straight across to exit ramp. Keep the big patch of reeds to your left. Its only up to sils on a 110, so snorkels not required, unless its been raining.
Enjoy!

To be honest with you i dont know,we were out at the ford in Jan 04 and got talking to the farmer, whose farm house is right by the ford, from what i can remember from the conversation at the time he said "at the moment the river is 4ft+ deep, the dam has been released" the farmer asked me did i have rasied breathers ? To i which i replied no (not at that time),he then advised me that i shouldnt attempt the crossing,he said "at times like these i cross it using the tractor, but if you want to have a go then its ok with me"
Thought about it for a nano second and declined the ford, thinking ill be bac for a crack at that.
Never gave it a second thought of the ford until Rob brought it up,but thinking about it,i dout there will be a release at this time of year,im guessing the Reserviors will be only half full, and water will need to be stored because of the dry weather we have had...

Nothing to flash, since its my first i got one of those starter packs from thunderpole, its a Team MC-8, cost 100quid (cost swmbo 100 quid:D )
it came with all the bits, basicly plug and play. Has all the functions i will ever need, since i know no one with a cb anyway. Although i was thinking a pa would have been nice for the dickheads that cut me up.

Mike it looks like there will be five vehicles in your convoy. That’s one too many. Pete if you need another map reader/leader I can lead a convoy to help keep numbers down. I now have the maps you recommended and I also have my PDA fully loaded with OS maps for Wales with GPS so we should have no problems. He says...... :D

well the Green Lane Code of Conduct states " Travel in groups of four vehicles or less." this way it is easier if you come across another convoy in the other direction or if you pass walkers/riders etc they are not hanging aroung waiting for lots of vehicles to pass. at least if we split up in to smaller convoys and leave 15-20 mins between each group, that way we are not all in one big convoy peeing off walkers etc.

Yea,sorry to be a pain.:(
The idea is to let you lot(who have never done the route) go off an hour before anyone else,say,10am..(just to give you a good enough head start).
IE..
group 1 sets off 10 am,then set off group 2 at 11am(the leaders of groups 2 and 3 will know where they are going as they are familar with the area).
Then group 3 will set of at say 11.30 11,45.....Just so that there is enough time between us,if we DID have yet another group join,us then that group wouldnt be getting away till even later.
So sorry to be a pain, but we will have to be firm on the 3 groups of four..
Hope you all understand ;)
