I am thinking of looking at some greenlaning around Glossop in the near future.
Is anyone interested in coming?
What dates would be best?
Any routes to try out?

I'll be up for that but not for a couple of weeks, not on 2nd or last sundays of each month either. I will ask a few of the lads in Glossop 4x4 group if they are interested and they will know the lanes better than me.

I think there is a lane up around ladybower and a few more i have heard of but have no idea where they are .. The only other lanes i know up that way are east towards castleton and beyond ..

I,d be up for a trip when the landy is sorted out ..

I know the lanes from Marple to Castleton, so the Roman Lakes at Marple could be a good starting point

What about 1st weekend in October (1st or 2nd), that should give all time to arrange it. I will be in the disco so am ready to go. Maybe someone should read the Derbyshire thread for relevant lanes. Sorry no time as I am off on my jollys in a few minutes...

I'm interested in coming along. However, it all depends if my 2A is on the road by then, and if I have a good set of wheels.

These 205s are just too small... I need a set of 235/85s and larger rims.

So Sunday 2nd October at the Roman Lakes Marple it is and we are going to Castleton :D
What time do you fancey starting?

9.00 am at Marple, I will post directions shortly and a map. Marple to castleton or to be accurate, Mam Tor, is not that far so there are more lanes that will take us to Stanage edge (a must do), but I am not sure where they are. I am still hoping for a guy from the club to join us who knows the area well.

So we change the date as Lewis cant make it either. I cannot do the second and last Sundays of each month so any other time is more or less ok.

How about Sunday 16th or Sunday 23rd October? This should give everyone more time to get their motors tip top.

paul (panda)
15th Sep 2005, 14:08
I,ve got maps marked out for lanes around castleton and towards stanage edge and beyond a wee bit ..

The date change would probably be a good idea if people are having to drop out due to other commitments.

How many are going anyway ?

The 16 will be great for me, I am off both days. :D
I will be bringing two more with me a 90 & 110, so that make 3 from Glossop.

Steel,

From chapel en la frith i can lead towards stanage ....and do some interesting lanes's inc my favourite lane
I,ve always descended stanage never ascended so it may take time to plot a route ....Anyone that has ascended stanage recently ( i have noticed on my last excursion walking the dog that some of the softer areas to put wheels on have been churned away a bit )
Going down is always easier than up ....

My club have done a bit of filling in on the holes around the big rocks on stanage, both ways is good but I prefer up which is more of a challenge. Stange may be difficult for standard discos especially if you have the standard low front bumper, expect some damage, unless someone has waffle boards they could bring along.

23rd is now out for me so lshould we go for the 16th?

Peter Cowin
16th Sep 2005, 15:14
It is all right I have got this Discovery for off roading and green laning. :D
By the time I have finished ther will be very little plastic left on the front and no towing bar on the back. ;)

Rich_P
25th Sep 2005, 13:23
If it is the 16th which the laning is happening, I may, MAY be able to come with my 2A (dad driving of course). But it is also pushing it.

The post is what is going to hold up the progress now, as I need to get some stuff from Paddocks, rewire, paint, refit the doors, refit the wing, paint the crossmember and some other bits and pieces before the MOT later next week.

...and then, before I want to take it off-road, I'll be painting up the whole chassis with paint and then waxoiling it all.... So that's quite alot of work to be done before the 16th. OH! And get some bigger tyres....

Looks like this has died a death. I am still up for this Sunday. If at least two others are interested let me know. I will be going anyway. Peter, if you are still interested, you could meet at my place in Broadbottom or at Brbyns car park in Marple Bridge. If any one is interested I will post a map and directions.

My 2A won't be coming, still stuck in the garage.

And also, I'm going to my grandparents on Saturday... so, I will be unable to attend.

I now have memory map fully loaded with all the local lanes up to Sheffield. I am suprised at how many there are around the Glossop area. I plan to start at my place, e-mail me for details (over 2 miles of the equivilent of a green lane to get to and from my place), alankempwets@yahoo.co.uk from here the first lane is a mile away, on to Marple, Rowarth, Chinley, Castleton, Hope, Stanage and take it from there depending on time.

You can also call me on 07967 1066 52 if you are interested.

Peter, would you be interested in www.glossop4x4group.co.uk (http://www.glossop4x4group.co.uk), we have regular meets and laning. We are out next Sunday but laning is not really my thing, I go now and again.
