Thanks to all from me as well, an excellent day out and somewhat remarkably nothing broke despite some exceptionally silly driving. What the heck, thats what we are there for!!
Hope to be back in a couple of weeks and looking forward to the pictures.

See. I knew it. I said to Cas that we would just pop along and say hello....and what happens....I end up taking "Poppy" round a few times.
It is so un-nerving grounding the thing...the first few times..but then you just forget about it..lol. As for rolling down hills with your feet off the peddles...I shat myself.. :eek: , but what a thrill.
Much respect to the Disco 3 owner. That thing was worth more than my first house and he still went through the paces. I must confess to changing my mind about there offroad ability!
As for the 109. Again, I was amased!!
Thanks for a great afternoon guys!

Made it back to Hawick at about 11pm! Long day. Had a great time. Even although there wasn't a lot of mud to play in, what we did find was fun (and well used by the end of the day).
No damage to report, although fuel tank must have taken a knock as stopped to fill up in Dundee and it started to leak at about 3/4 full. Think its the filler pipe (jubilee clip non existant), temporary repair made with zip ties!
Great to meet up with you all. Some pics from the day, including a few of Rod, dakar man, kbraidwood and the man with balls the size of space hoppers in his Disco3! Much respect to the guy!!! Oh, and one of some guy in a green90 pretending it's actually a yellow 110???
Sorry there's none of Poppy, and she sounded fantastic!
Looking forward to seeing Ali's pics,
Cheers guys,
See you at the Forest Drive?
Ross.

It was a great day. I brought my dad along, but you didn't quite manage to convert him from his little toyota...
Sorry no pictures of Poppy either, was busy dismantling Rod's landy while she was having a little play.
There will be more pictures on my web site hopefully no later than Wednesday, and Jamesetta will get some up on Nor-trak site at some point.

55/60 on the flat....PAH!...;)
We were sitting at 70 back to Stoney..hit a bit more than that on the straights..and there was more to come. Only problem is that 70mph = 70 mpg..thats meters per gallon, not miles! :eek:
Over the slug road to Banchory caused a few missed heart beats though :D I guess Landy brakes heat up a bit..hehe!

Ah the bonus of a V8 a bit of power. Mind you can cruise at 70 in mine just its well pretty loud hence why I havent bothered witht the CD player yet.
And yeah Rob Poppy is a very tidy motor, sorry couldnt spend more time with you on Sunday as you noticed I was busy with recoverys and breaking my own motor.
Hopefully Miranda will be back on the road end of this week she off getting welded then I need to put the Diff back together.
Cheers guys.

:( :( :( A dirty 109 may be a thing of the distant future..........It turns out that ive not only broken a halfshft but done some damage to the diff too.....so its looking like its time for a new front axle for the old beast!!!!
Price of a replacement axle............... approximately 70 quid.............Adays off roading at Nortrak to break the landrover..............PRICELESS...........and for everything else theres mastercard!!!!

Have you diagnosed the problem? Take it the diff had exploded?
jamesetta
17th Aug 2005, 20:09
kbraidwood.......do you know where to get "series bits" in our area.....let me know ..I know a couple of people that might have some parts......but sorry to hear that the diff is busted aswell....:confuseda

17th Aug 2005, 20:16
Hi Steve,
The diff is suffering around 120 degrees of backlash............i am presuming that ive either stripped the teeth on the crownwheel or completely wrecked the pinion.............either way it will be quicker to swap out the whole unit rather than mess around with trying to repair the existing one.
If you happen to come by one i would be interested.............parts are getting quite rare in this neck of the woods!!...........even the scotads drew a blank this week...........lol...........although there was one guy advertising a complete petrol LWB circa 1990 for £50 quid........typo error me thinks........;) ..........however..........might be worth a phone call...........on second thoughts maybe not..........the wife will kill me if i come home with another LR.

Are you starting a competition with Steve to see who breaks most diffs? Probably best not to!

It was mentioned that quite a few people had mentioned starting a club.....maybe we should call it NOR_TRAK DIFF BUSTERS
Steve = 2
Rod = 1
KBraidwood = 1
Seems like theres a pattern emerging here to me :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

Don't take it personally, but I'd rather not join the club! Especially if it has to be at NorTrak.... If I bust a diff there I'm completely USCWAP!!!Cheers,
Ross.
