Hi all,

By any chance does anyone have an extra Series 3 gearbox which he would like to sell at a reasonable price? I'm thinking of rebuilding a gearbox but I don't want to be pressed on time and spend days without my LR. I thought I could rebuild a second gearbox then just swap them.

A 5 speed gearbox would be ideal. Please email me details about your gbox together with the price. I might take some time to answer as I'll spending the next 4 weeks in the States.

See you all...

to change your gearbox to five speed ou need to relocate the mountings and propshaft have to be shortened besides some other things such as handbrake, centre tunnel, seatbox etc etc. so if you want to swop your box again you need to find a 4 speed one

a friend of mine at imgar has got some boxes at about lm35-lm40 i think.

I have a cheap 5 speed if you want, but as maniac said, loads of fitting. Been there, done that!

Call Kaci 79701717....... he had one, my last un reconditioned one i sold for 15 quid complete! was a good candidate for a rebuild, no broken gears but was like a siren, all bearings were bust.

Baptist, the only way you'll know that your box is reconditioned is if you get yours reconditioned. If you don't want to do it yourself, leave it to the professionals. Book well in advance and you'll have the landy back within 3 days.

from ciapella motors imgar a reconditioned one costs at about lm175. labour to fit it I do not know but as you know I can help you in doing that;). Ask adrian maybe he can part exchange with your box and will get it at a cheaper price.

for some one to open it I can get you a contact but there would be lm40 labour for sure and spare parts are very expensive. You may end up slightly cheaper but this guy is not as professional as the mechanics working at imgarr.

Hi all,
By any chance does anyone have an extra Series 3 gearbox which he would like to sell at a reasonable price?

I got one including the transfer case. The transfer case is fine but the box used to make some noises as if some bearing was not that healthy. All gears including the high and low (transfer case) do not jump. I took the bell housing off to use it on another box. lm35 takes them both. If you're interested, I will try to get hold of an input shaft as it is also missing.

Call me on 79277209 or email me on joe0192002@yahoo.com

I'm looking for a 'B' prefix gearbox + transfer case, which does not have gears slipping out and should be in a fairly good condition although I will be rebuilding it to make sure all gears and bearings or running smooth.

Secondly, What's the difference between a 5 speed gearbox and a 4 speed with an overdrive, as to me they mean the same thing (though I think they're different things, fromthe posts I read)

I didn't have time to get back to you mates to contact you regarding your offers, as at the moment I'm in the States (LA). A couple of things about here....there are loads of Hummers passing/parked here, loads of latest RRovers and Discos all fitted with mighty V8s :-) Haven't seen a single Defender though.
See you all mates.
