Hello all,
we just got back from a wonderfull vacation in Devon and Cornwall. Via OS maps we found some byways and drove them. Unfortunately due to the dry (?) weather there wasn't much mud to see, but.... we did have a good time though. Some Byways were closed. I understood that one should bring home evidence of driven lanes. Can anyone share this experience with me please, esp how to calculate the grid reference of the byways we visited.
best regards from Holland and eh... watch my site if you want to have a look at some pics. (see fotoalbum in the main menu).
Bye

the best way would have been to GPS the start/end points, but I supose you are home now and tis a bit late for that.
I assume you still have the OS maps, you could work it out by divideing the relevant grid up or you could talk to the local offroad club and sort it out with them.
We would all love to see some picks, post a link to your site for us.

Hi, I will try to find out the GPS coordinates. I have a TTN 5 so that should not be a problem.
My site is www.gretl.nl (http://www.gretl.nl) and have a look in the fotoalbum
thanks

Seems you had a good time and the pics llok good. Regarding the working out of map references: Every OS map has a panel showing map symbols and their meanings. Also in this panel is piece about how to work out a six figure map reference.Martin

Thanks, although I must admit that in some cases the byways were driven by 'normal' cars as well, ofcourse. But after we installed the seat covers, tight everything up in the back, brought our rainboots and stick to identify the depth of waterways..... you might understand how we felt, haha.
