Every now an again.

just looking over the gallery on the GLASS site and it appears that an "Unsuitable for Motors" sign usually means that the lane has legal motorised right of way, but it is just no go for them low slung chavmobiles, more suited for your 4X4 like..

can this be true?????

I've always assumed so, and if GLASS has the image on their site, then they'd have to agree too. I think the highway authority/council put the sign up, because then it means they no longer have to maintain the road to motorised vehicular standard, just to a level that allows push bikes, horses and pedestrians. There's no reason not to use it if you think your vehicle can make it though.

In this modern age, it's basically done to avoid Insurance claims.

Hi,

I was driving to Long Watton from Burton yesterday and say a sign that said "Unsuitable for motors" coupled with a weak bridge sign just off the A512 (I think) so with care could this be passable? I was very tempted to have a go but logic dictated that with £85 of organic meat in the boot it wouldn't be too wise... That and the weak bridge sign.

"Unsuitable for Motors" will be on a UCR so it will have vehcle rights so its ok to drive.

Yes, all it meens is that if you damage your car then you can not sue the council.
The same reason is for the signs on main roads, the ones that warn you of possible.
