Following the great turnout at Rochdale, I thought I should post a new thread about the Burnley site. The event is organised by 4x4 Funday, web site at http://www.4x4funday.co.uk/

The site is not as big as Whitworth and there is no lake but lots of good climbs etc. The ground is mainly compacted gritstone quarry waste, peat boggy muddy bits where you will get stuck if its wet.

There are usually a few bangers so caution is the watch word. Last time I was there, chatted to lots of L/R drivers and had a good day out. It is non damaging if you stay on the easier bits and very challenging if you want it to be. Bring some butties with you as the catere never turns up.

This is from the web site.
SUNDAY AUGUST 7th - Sunday 10-4pm - @ £30 pay on the day - BRIERCLIFFE, nr Burnley, Lancs., Site Description Large quarry / moorland site with natural water sections, lots of climbs and great fun, axle twisters, "bomb" holes and mud sections. DIRECTIONS M65 junction 12 past B&Q Superstore. Right at roundabout towards Brierfield. First traffic lights turn LEFT signposted HAGGATE. Travel up the hill past Nelson Golf Club. RIGHT at the "T" junction. Into BRIERCLIFFE and straight across the cross roads. FOLLOW 4x4 FUNDAY signs from the M65 junction 12 motorway junction. CATERING - we need a new caterer ... can you help ?

well it all depends on your point of view..

£30 for a day out is ****** all IMO

I used to do track days @ min £100 entry + £75 fuel etc etc

so £30 for a day bashing the crap outta my landy is fun !

besides i only do it once a month so its a cheap day out

errr.... much as i could use it as an excuse to visit my nan, £30  thats + the fuel to get there!!!

sounds like could be damaging as well, might give it a miss, although if we did happen to be visiting my nan we might drop down in the car for a look.

James, you do realise this is the same weekend as Woodvale is on and the North Yorkshire classic car/van show and 4x4 sort out, right?

JJ,
Both LandyV8 and me will still be on the LRO Welsh holiday so will not be there. This week's weather report from Lake district is 'wet and getting wetter'. Good training for Wales methinks!
Cheers, The old man.

Went again on Sunday 10th, we had free run of the place as it was quiet. Simon (in the red 90 truck cab) and I went a little hardcore for us. Check out these pics taken by a mate.

Change of plan, I talked to a few guys at Rochdale on Sunday and the general concensus was that Rochdale is a much better site, better value and they allways have food and toilets so I will be going there. Provided I have fixed the 90 after rolling it on Sunday.

Well popped over to Burnley today...

good fun to be had ! unless you owned the series landy that rolled ! lucky none of the 7 people inside where hurt !

I was well pleased as it was my first test of my 235/85/16 Colway M/T tyres

they are fantastic... nothing beat me all day... ! they even got me up a hill to act as Alan's winch point ;) ...

Yeah, thanks Mark, did you notice the problem I had, a big rock was wedged under my front tyre and I rolled back on it and it lifted my front end about 2 feet then slid sidways and it was very close to rolling on the big rock I had just climbed over. You passing was very timely.
