Hiya,

New to all this. Just got a Rangie and I'm wondering what all this talk about 'Green Laning' is? I wasnt to get into off roading, but need something easy to start off with!

As far as I can see, Green Laning is going up country roads???

Cheers,

Paul.

You don't happen to be the guy who is a friend of John are you?
As, if you are, I've seen pics of the RRC you have, and its very tidy.

Anyway, to answer your question, greenlaning is going on greenlanes. Now, I'm not very well up on greenlaning yet, but I'd suggest you take a look at the GLASS website (Green Laning Association) here. (http://www.glass-uk.org/)

You can also go to some pay and play sites, where you pay a fee of about £25 to "play" all day there off-road with your vehicle.

Oh, and another note, make sure you have good tyres! If you have road biased tyres, don't expect to get very far, even if you have lots of power and torque, as the wheels will not get any grip and will just spin otherwise.
Be aware also, you will end up with damage off-road sometime. I've already damaged Otu slightly, catching a rock at the local pay and play site. So it might be worth investing in some decent body protection such as corner stops (can't remember the technical term, but the corner peices on the bumpers).

I have missed out alot no doubt, as there is an awful lot to this sort of stuff! ;)

Oh, welcome also.

Green laning is travellin gover legal byways that are classed as BOATs - Byways Open To All Traffic or RUPPs - Roads Used As Public Paths (if there's any of these left after the recent re-org by the government). For the best part, only 4x4 vehicles and tractors could negotiate them

Contact your local Land Rover club, they will have a Rights of Way officer, they'll put you right. Or contact your local Glass rep.

Hi,

I know John yeah - How do you know him?

Thanks for the info. I cant drive the Rangie until tomorrow as it has no tax, but when I do then I'll be looking into bits and pieces to buy for it ! :)

Cheers,

Paul.

I know John, as I met him at the pay and play site near here... the one in Rochdale.

Went in his Yellow (now paint stripped) Rangie too. :)

(I also have him on my MSN contacts now too)

Were you at Rochdale with us on the 26th? There is a good place to practice but would suggest you go on the green route cos you wont get stuck on that. I will be there again on Sunday 10th July.

Well,

I'll be coming along with John and Mark at the next off road event.

So on the 10th....will my standard rangie be OK on a beginnners course or something??

Cheers,

Paul.

Not entirely sure though. The front skirt is an issue, as it is quite low and it may catch a bit.

But you have... like, the rest of your time owning the OneTen to damage it. I meant that sometime, it could be like 40 years from now, but it will happen eventually, no doubt. :p

You need to remove the spoiler, I removed mine on a lane in Shropshire (Long Myndd) but it was tatty anyway!

I fitted steering and diff guard , some sill bars and mud terrains. Rangies are great off road (when they are working!)

Hi Paul...

I think it would be wise to get the diff steering guard then come on a green lane with me and John first, that will give you some idea, then go off road and give it some at a quarry, rangie's are very good off road but loose the spolier first.
