Hampton Loade is a nice spot, there are a few nice pubs along the Severn and the Severn Valley railway is definately worth a visit.
An interesting Ferry crosses the river here purely powered by the flow of the river. I believe there are a few lanes around there too although not been over that way myself only what I heard at the local LRC meet the other week. Your also a stones throw away from Church Stretton and the gorgeous Stretton Hills, where again there are some nice lanes but nothing compared to the Strata , mostly short stuff but nice to explore all the same. If you do venture over the Church Stretton Direction, check out the ford a Cheney Longville, not for the faint hearted if the rivers up ! ;)

I can vouch for Hampton Loade being a very nice part of the world, I have family that live 50yards from the Unicorn pub and infact my brother and dad have just built a house only a stones throw from there too.
As mentioned before the ferry is a must for crossing the river (only 50p per person, or 25p per dog) as the pub on the other bank (River & Rail) does some very good food. Also the steam train which stops at Hampton Loade station can take you into Bridgnorth itself (or Kiddeminster the other way) for a great Historical market town.
I have just remembered that the severn valley railway is holding two 1940's weekends, 25th & 26th and 2nd & 3rd june, this comprises of many poeple dressing up in 1940's gear, especially soldiers because they have a 2nd world war battle at Highley station. (last year the Germans won) This can make for a great day out if its your type of thing. I belive they even have a big band playing at Kiddeminster station throughout the day.
Sorry to babble on, i dont even know when you intend makeing this trip, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts of Hampton Loade if you do venture this way.
Thanks

Hi Pete, as Shropshire residents, we can vouch for the area, the site at Hampton Loade is in a nice setting, flooding should not be a prob unless there is a huge amount of rain!
The site at Stanmore (outside Bridgnorth) is managed by the Caravan Club and is nice, don't know if they take tents.
There is a very nice Camping and Caravan Club site at Wolverley, a few miles towards Kidderminster. It is next to a pub(good one!) and situated on the canal with walks into Kidderminster where there is a huge Sainsburys!
They take non-members. I
It is only about 20 miles from home for us, but we often take our caravan there for a weekend, it is popular and often full!
There is lots to do in the area,a fair few lanes too!
We are in France in July, otherwise it would have been nice to meet some fellow forum members!
We hope you enjoy yourself, if you need any info please ask.

Sorry I meant to say the site at Hampton Loade could flood, if we have a huge amount of rain, most areas along the Severn are laible but it tends to be in Spring and autumn! Still you never know these days! If there is a lot of rain and risk, they do publicise warnings on radio and TV! Best keep an eye on the weather forecast! :(

Its ok to camp by the river .....just make sure you go to sleep in a rubber ring if it rains he he.....
When the upton on severn festival was on that happened ....all the drunks walked round inside rubber rings incase the river burst its banks.
