Hi all,

it's been quite some time since I lasted posted some updates on my LR, so here's an update...

Managed to solve that clutch problem I had.
Managed to free the transfer case and make the LOW drive work.

Now my next task is to align the front wheels and fit a PAS. Apart from that I intend to replace all 4 tyres. What would you suggest as regards to make?

My current choice is between buying a set of second-hand BFG Trac-Edge at Lm120 or else opt for a set of new Kumho AT 215/85R16 Road Venture KL41 at Lm170. I read some good reviews about the latter.

Any tips and help on other possible brands are more than welcome. Thanks again.

ifhem Lm120 coz u're paying for the brand name, tinsiex steve li tipo jien BFG's Lm85 each new. Lm120 depends on the wear and tear they got on them nahseb to actually be a decider if its a good price or no.

to be honest, i bought BFG's coz i saw wot they do on dborg's 90 and i liked them. (before u say it, i know most it is daniel's skill :p )

Batptist you do not know mr lewis hux? with wide wheels and no PAS he will become very muscular (more then he is :scared: )cause of the training to spin the land around :p

if this happens at work we must enlarge all the doors for him to pass..lol

I do have PAS fitted but have been out of operation for months now coz the pump's been removed for an overhaul! With 265/70/R16 I still manage ANYTHING.......driving, parking in tight places, AND off-roading....just see my pics!! My tyres are BFG AT KO, I paid a bit of ahigh price when compared to others but I know I'm taking every cent out of them especially on the road where they grip like hell even in wet conditions.........ask the ones around who have had the chance of a ride with me to tell you about this....!!

As to the choice of tyres......I strongly agree with Olo with regards to 2nd hand BFG. If they are good and still have a long life better get them rather than new, lower quality tyres. It's true that you are paying for the brand but quality on BFGs is much better than the others......

Sorry to mention brand names on the public forum!!

Good luck with your tyre hunting and the idea of PAS!!

You mean you are using the landy with the power steering pump off? Have i understood correctly? ax filkass gemma ghall kaxxa ohra habib!

Anyway back on topic, tyres, i also have bought 2nd hand BFG MT's and they where at the right price at the right time, in fact i bought 8 for lm120:D, it was a bargain i could not pass by! Still plenty of tread in them, although one has some sidewall damage, but what the hell at 15liri a tyre!

Just watch out what you buy 2nd hand, inspect them well if unmounted, sidewall damage, cracked rubber, broken cords, etc., if they are mounted and inflated the better as all the defects will show. BFG's track edge have been discontinued so if you rip one you cannot get a replacement! unless you buy 5. My advise is to go and buy a decent set of remoulds for that money and rip them till they die, then upgrade in the future to a better make.

What tyres are you running now? whats wrong with them??

I wouldn't go for Trac Edge for one simple reason. BFGoodrich stopped manufacturing them about three years ago. If you need to replace one tyre in the future, you won't be able to buy one and you'll have to fork out for a new set.

Front tyres are completely smooth, hence I need to take the Landy for wheel alignment before fitting the new tyres.
I managed to find a good set of BFGs 235/85 R16....looking forward to see them fitted on the LR.

BTW mates, have you ever listened to an LR fitted with a Nissan 6 cylinder, working? I know it's a sin to change engine but that engine is so smooth and it give out such a nice musical note ;) .... I might fall in the temptation! I think the original 2.3D is a bit underpowered for a 109.

Ajma r-ras. More jap crap. Don't go there mate. That engine really does sound lovely (after all it was designed for Jaguar but Jaguar didn't want it because it was too heavy) but it's bloody gutless. It's free revving and offers decent power but you won't find torque when you need it. Just to give you an example. A couple of years ago, i was in a mate's Nissan powered landy. We were about to charge up Xemxija Hill (back then there were no speed cameras). He blasted down the straight in top gear doing about 55mph. Half way up the hill he was already down to third, further up he was down to second. After revving the hell out of it he barely managed to get to the top in third. Back then I owned a 2.5 litre (Rover obviously) naturally aspirated Series III. If I didn't find any traffic to slow me down and managed to get a good run up, it would climb that hill in top gear. The Nissan is a "square engine" (the bore diameter and stroke are the same size) and square engines do not offer low down torque. In a Land Rover, you need the torque to peak at about 1900 revs not further up the rev range.
