Not sure about toilet block but you will find a very nice camp site between the village of Llwyngwril and Llanegryn, it is a farm right on the corner of the coast road to Tywyn, you turn into the farm just before you turn away from the coast.

The camp site is in a field on top of a cliff face looking out to sea with Barmouth on the other side of the bay

Or if you are looking for a holiday house I can help you out with a 5 bedroom house approx 1 min walk from the beach. The house is in Llwyngwril. the village has a pub, shop and post office.

PM me if your interested also lots of lanes to drive in the area. I will do you a good forum rate :)

We stayed at one at Tal-y-Bont which is a few minutes drive from Barmouth. It ids signed off the coast road, you can walk through the sand dunes to the beach-ideal for dogs! It was a nice enough site, basic but clean with friendly owner. Some elctric hook ups too.
Can't remember the name, sorry ( a few years ago now)-but there are a few sites along that stretch of the coast.:)

Thanks for your help lads, I think we have decided on Shell Island as a few of the lads from work have been and only have good things to say about it.

Now all i need to do is try and persuade the Mrs that the 2.5hour trip in the old 90 would be much more fun than an hour and three quarters in her Impreza....Hmmm not going to be easy:D

P.s. If anyone has any tales / reports of Shell Island that they would like to tell me, either e-mail me or post here.

Thanks again;)

we called in shell island for a few hours when we we're in the area.

IIRC it has nice beaches , pretty big, plenty of space....

INterestingly enough, we were talking about lanes round barmouth / dolgellau at our local GLASS meeting last night, watch the lanes round there, some are deceptively narrow, one bloke reshaped the front of his landcruiser round there, it ended up a bit pointier than it was before :D

We have been to shell island.
Have to say we didnt rate it,toilet block is central of the whole site and found that they werent cleaned very often :( Plus you will prob have to queue for a shower,as it can be busy.
The camp is huge, supposed to be the biggest camping site in Europe, which is good if you have your own toilet.camping in the dunes is fun,but the hike to the loo isnt..

There can often be gangs of youths camping there, and be a pain in the early hours.

I would give them a ring to find out if there policy re large groups has changed at all.

Heres a link to shell island camping site...

Shell Island is a great place to camp.

I would try to avoid going at peak holiday times, ie. Bank Holiday weekends, as the site can get full and that's when the queues realy get long as the facilities cant really cope.

The North end (harbour end) is generally quieter than the South end (dunes end). Showers - get there at about 7:45am and you shouldn't have to queue for long. Loos - I suggest taking your own loo roll as extended use of the standard paper can make things quite uncomfortable!

All the areas are good for camping but there are a few things worth knowing. Camping in the dunes is great but the ground is quite loose - the yellow plastic pegs can sort that out. A lot of the areas towards the harbour can be quite stoney so be prepared to reposition pegs and try again or they'll just bend. There are quite a few dips in the ground - avoid these as the water table can rise very quickly when it rains and you'll be squelching around in your tent.
One more thing - I wouldn't recommend driving through the sea water but that's up to you. It is, however, great entertainment watching people trying it!

try here mate, we have been plenty of times and never had any bother

2 minute walk to the sand dunes and beach and the pub on site is brilliant for kids.

and as for rowdy teens, they seem to shut up when i hitch their daft citroen saxo's up to the back of the disco LOL

Yes, it is quite nice in the area :) I'm lucky, I've got free accomodation whenever I'm in the area, all I need now is a a 4x4... Sorry, my own 4x4 :D :D

The Welsh coast is a nice place to visit, just remember details of how to escape in an emergency   :o :) :p
