Drove the Garburn Pass yesterday. Great weather, great views, really uplifting experience.

It's a drive by permit only route, contact Dave Robinson for details.

Nice pics. Thought you had to be in a group of 3 to get a permit, so you can recover each other if req'd, not that the trail looked hard?

The permit is either for a group of up to 4 cars, or by individual car. I applied individually for two cars, however it was raining on Saturday when we had intended to drive it. The permit requires that you drive in dry conditions - so we postponed. My buddy had to go home on Sunday night so I drove alone on Monday, and back-up in the form of a friend (with permit) about an hour away in case of breakdown.

Not textbook, but a plan.

I note the "Bridleway" sign - Is that strictly correct?
Surely it's a "BOAT", or have things moved on since then?!

Below the bridleway sign is a Lake District National park Hierarchy of trail routes sign (HOTR) and LARA guidance which indicates that it is driveable. The wooden post is misleading, but attractive!!

The HOTR sign looks like this (this one's in Grizedale forest).

Aha! Thanks for that.
I think I've well and truly drowned in the sea of route reclassifications.
I must do an internet search in to new route designations!
