Hi Malta members,
The missus is hankering after getting a cheap late deal break in the Med. sun somewhere.
I'm currently trying to persuade her that meeting some other Forum members might be a good idea!
Give me some ammo to bombard her with please!!
I've spotted a deal for 7 nights on Gozo for £450 arriving in Malta on Tuesday 24th May. Has anybody got any suggestions for cheap accomodation over there if we were to just get flights.
We'd have to be heading back to UK by 10th June as the Missus is flyng back to Canada soon after.
Cheers,
swag

Well honestly if I were you I'd rather live in Malta and hop over to Gozo for a day or 2. Let's see... Ok we need SvenUK here to comment. Dave wanna be our UK PR guy? :D
Mention beer and a couple of trips to some places off the beaten track... hmm wait.. i think mentioning loads of shops and loads of good food and plenty of sunny weather with which to get a tan is a better idea.
As for accomodation, as I said I would prefer staying in Malta. Not sure where is cheap and where isn't though. I'm sure the others will have better advice about accomodation!
Hope to see you soon!!

Found a self catering deal on Malta for £400 and we're on the verge of booking it.
Dunno whether to hire a Maruti heap or just trust to the public transport.
Am I right in thinking there are about Lm0.62 to £1?

Booked.
Flying into Malta on 31st May. We'll be ready for lots of LR related fun from the 1st onwards......Well, I will be. Not to sure about the missus!
One of you Malta boys will have to pm me with some contact details.
Maybe this will have to become a regular thing. When I've emigrated to Canada all forum members will have to come and visit!
If any of you Malta boys need any small LR bits that I can sneak in my luggage let me know.

Hey swag great to hear that :D
I'm sure hiring the jeep will make you much more mobile and much more likely to enjoy more of Malta and Gozo. SvenUK had tons of fun with that thing. He even took it offroad with us :D. Public transport tends to get overcrowded. Tickets for public transport cost from 30p to 75p depending on the route.
I'll PM you my phone number and I'm sure buzz (who seems to be the PR guy around here :D) will do so too.
We'll find something for the missus. You could send her into the Valletta with your credit card while we go offroad :D

Hi Swag,
Well as Nighthawk rightly said the best way would be to be based in Malta and hop over to Gozo for a day during your stay. Gozo is like the mainland's sister Island quite small but very beautiful.
The Maruti would give you more range and ability to explore Malta but then again it depends on what kind of holiday your after, whether its baking in the sun or exploring.
We will definatly organise a drive and even take you where we took Sven-Uk. It is a local off roading enthusiasts spot and is quite a pleasant challenge.
I will PM my details as Nighthawk suggested.
Hope to see you soon then.

Hi Swag, it's great news to hear that you're coming as well!! To continue on what my fellow mates rightly said our public transport tends to be erratic in timings, sometimes it's very slow, very hot, and overcrowded but after all it's very cheap. If you intend hiring a 4X4 Maruti Gypsy is the only type rented on the islands but they are great fun to get around especially in the hot weather!! Besides a car is invaluable while on holiday as it gives you mobility any time, not to mention that with us you will be drving it over some rough terrain......don't mention that to the garage from where you're gonna hire the 4X4!!
As to the currency it's more or less like you said LM0.65 to £1.
Anyway, I'm sending you my details in a PM. We'll make sure you enjoy your stay ;)

Hi Swag
I can definatly reccomend the Marunti soft top for getting about. It's a bit bumpy but will get you off the beaten track.Just hire it for a few days the rest you can use the very cheap and reliable but old buses!!!!!!
You will not be dissapointed ,it's a great place to visit, get the ferry over to Gozo( 8 LIRE) and turn east and there are some great lanes(sorry bumpy roads) to follow the coast northwards.towards Marsalforn and past the salt pans o and then on past Zeebug down the west coast.
I'm sure the malta lads will look after you, they did for us and if you are good they will take you down that awesome hill.
Beer and food (get the lads to introduce you to SNAILS) are cheap and plentifull and they put al ot of it away ,i'm still recovering from the late nights out with them.
Have a great time mate and say hello to the boys for me.

How much did the Maruti sting you for then?
And is there anywhere in particular I should be hiring one from?
Cheers,

We should be running our own travel agency here....:p
Try check www.avis.co.uk (http://www.avis.co.uk) , maybe www.hertz.co.uk (http://www.hertz.co.uk) as well maybe.
A maltese search engine... www.searchmalta.com (http://www.searchmalta.com) is a handy site. But if Sven`s been happy with from were he`s got his Maruti.. and the price difference isnt much... dont go for a `small looking` operator.
http://www.edmondgarage.com/main.html is a good chaffeur company i`d recommend if you need airport transfers, . Edmonds is a family run business and he`s always charged fair prices for when we are out on a night, not risking to drive back home. Tell Edmond or Sylvia, that Neville from the Printing press gave you their number. Im not sure if they respond daily to email inquiries though.
Watch out from White taxi drivers... they`re not cheap and useless.
http://www.atp.com.mt/places_of_interest.html & http://www.maltatransport.com/en/ for the buses.. cheap.. and you might have the pleasure of riding in a perkins...
Always give plenty of time... as distances might be short.. but it still takes its time.
Self catering is not bad at all... nearly all supermarkets and mini markets are in the same price range. Just beware that sunday, every shop is closed ( even supermarkets), except bars, take-aways and restaurants.
Curious about something else?
