Can anyone tell me what is the status of what used to be (RoW?) around the Tan Hill area of the Northern Yorkshire Dales. I have checked on GLASS Wayfinder but can find no reference to any lanes in this area. These lanes were driven some years ago but I'm not sure if they were ever legal.

Have you tried putting it on the glass forum ;)
To be honest I gave up with the forum, found it to be generally childish with people argueing rather than really sorting things out. But then this has always been a problem with GLASS.

None of the routes that converge on Tan Hill are legal vehicular Rights of Way. Historical evidence suggests they could be and I believe there are claims in but at the moment they are out of bounds.
The only one nearby is the UCR about 3km east of Tan Hill that crosses Sleightholme Moor over to Bowes (not the Pennine Way bridleway) - a fairly easy but bleak stoney track.
TVM for that info. I know these lanes were driven in the early 70's by a well known northern LR club. Back then it didn't seem to matter.
