Sounds like your Hijacking my Idea Major!
If anything Loewenbrau carpark is out of the way for most of us as we can take a shorter route via the coast or even Ballut block, not out of anyones way.

But whatever.
Everyone do as they please, just meeting place at Ghajn Tuffeiha at 1100hrs.

nies - me have problem ... :sadagain: ...

but hopefully might be solved on Saturday and i would be able to make Sunday.

i bought new rear brake shoes (with metal), new cylinder and seal kit for other. i also aquired a 2nd hand drum as mine was very grooved from Johnny ....

so off goes my worn drum, cylinder and old riveted shoes (were not very worn) and on with the new ones, BUT Johnny's drum will not go on (stud holes too small - prolly from a IIA  ) so had to put mine back on temporarily until i widen stud holes.

so far so good but now the NEW shoes are VERY thin (thinner than what was left on old ones) so i have practically no brake settings to adjust !! :o

didnt bother with other side .... :( i will have to go buy the old riveted shoe linings and do it all over again Saturday, in the meantime ill widen stud holes on 'new' drum.

we bled brakes but with no setting on rear right i have to pump around 3 or 4 times before i feel any brakes - not very safe at all

rear left bleed nipple on cylinder broken of so THAT cannot be really bled either (did it from brakes metal pipe but air still in cylinder) so ANOTHER new cylinder on the way ........... AND Lm15.00 for 4 rear shoes down the drain :(

Baptist the shoes are mintex?? they should be fine, its the adjusters which are probably worn down, hence no adjustment, are you sure they are landrover items?

I just replaced mine and they work fine, did you mount them correctly?? as if you swap shoes the adjuster will not contact the shoe.

Baptist if you need any help or any tools i might have (you know... with that huge toolbox I got back there..) let me know I can make it anytime tomorrow (friday) or saturday afternoon. Actually I gotta fix my handbrake tomorrow (finally got the right brake shoes I THINK!!) so we're both on the 'brake shoes' theme :D

putting rivit shoes will solve your problem imma you still have the same thicknes due to the rivit heads. Issa if you do not remove them often you will end up with the same problem as before, groved drums.

The adjusters do work but over time they usually get worn down by a few mm and that makes a big difference. The solution is to either change the adjusters, or a more common approch is to build a bead of weld either on the adjuster or on the shoe pin.

I changed mine cause the adjuster had made a slot in the pin on metal shoe, hence adjustment was near impossible. I still have some problems at one side as its on the limit but i will make a spacer for the shoe pin an the lathe and see how that works.

Check the old shoes if you are using those as the pins are usually worn down. The mintex shoes sell off to a fellow landy owner, or keep for future fitment...........

Looks like we're all on the theme of brakes here! I just checked the wheel cylinders and after a bit of cleaning they all work smooth! They did remain in operation though as the shoes were worn down. That saw me spend LM11 for the shoes (Mintex). Then checked the calipers, 4 pistons are badly rusted but don't leak and all work. Brake pads only about 25% worn. Then I was off for the master cyclinder...got a new piston (TRW Lucas) for LM9...dismantled the master and found it was the bore which was worn...at 7.30pm I was lucky enough to go to Joey tal-Mosta to replace the piston for a complete master cylinder...LM45 (TRW Lucas)...back to the garage and I found out that I lost the keys ... idiot :p

Now it's all set...handrake....brakes...what's next......the steering components...
Starightened and reinforced rear track-rod.... ball-joints on it ok.....
Straightened front track rod, 1 ball-joint ok......
New bushes on steering damper.....
Swear time....ball-joint on the drop-arm......dismantled every component in it but could not get the upper seating out :( It has to be replaced as it's too worn down. Not a job for a hydraulic press due to excess wear.... anyone any tips....apart from praying??!?

Why not get a second hand arm instead of fiddling around yours?? and replace the BJ on the SH arm, if its that stubborn to remove! Just my opinion.

Grem,
The answer is simply because to get the drop arm off is as stubborn!!

I'll still get a 2nd hand drop arm and replace the ball-joint bil-lest for next time!! But that wont' leave me running with my bike :p as I can do it in my free time....

Anyway I got some tips from other threads I opened, now I'll try them after work ;)
