Next time! Its easier to go north towards Brecon and go down the steps between the Gap itself. The bit pictured is the gulley where they blew up a bridge in the war. Another pic of Ben.

Gets cold up in those Beacons. went walking up there too earlier this year and had sun, blizzard, mist and rain all in half hour! Good tracks round Talybont too.

No but Paul had to reverse up for some Discos and ploughed full tilt into the rock, the bars that bolt to the chassis next to thye fuel tank both sheared and the dixon bate adjustable drop plate has bent back an inch or two!

Thanks mate, done all of them except the 'Lane fromHell', didn't manage it as we got a little stuck at http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=287520&y=210900&z=3&sv=287500,210500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&dn=799 somewhat boggy, I got through but the others turned back! Anyway whats the lane from hell like?

lane from hell is very harsh - have a look at my website, on the trips page, it's the lane coming down a rock gully with big boulders in the track - i'll post some more pics when i get home from uni
where you got stuck, is that another track to mad lane ? (mad lane's got a 90 degree bend which is waterlogged, and the whole track is rutted )

Sounds familiar, it ends by crossing a bridge through a farmyard. It was Paul vps disco that neede towing virtually the whole way, then I got through the boggy bit, but he got stuck again. So they turned round and poor Ben towed him in his 90 all the way back.
I went round on the road and met them at the start, where they both got stuck!!!!! Luckily I pulled both of them out, long day!
Lane from hell looks good (nice website) will do that next time. I recognise some of the places in your pics, are some of them from that opencast you mention? Is it pay and play or 'casual' access?
See you some day.

Doesn't matter how many pictures you see of the gap, it NEVER looks as steep as it really is!

hiya, my club payed Sarn Helen and LFH a viset at the end of July, LFH is a very good lane, you just need a good spotter.......even a standard zook can do it!

Hi Discomadness - I never use along the corridor up the stairs, just didn't work for me.
Read the north south lines come first, then the east west ones. Make sure you're in the correct grid square also. For instance east of Aberdare is SO, west of Aberdare is SN.
Anyway...
Mad lane, Lane from Hell, Gap, Sarn Helen 160
Tal-y-Bont, Pontsticill Holes 160&161
