Well, looks like a lot of fun out there, though the last time I traveled with the 90 through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Romania, we tended to stay posh in hotels/motels.
Would love to do the trip again sometime.. :)
You are very welcome

No, my wife is the same, (she is from Romania, and use to the hot summers,) as one dream I have is to go to Iceland, though now after years of nagging, she is slowly getting there...
Scotland is not that cold you know by the way.. you could hop on the ferry to Edinburgh direct. I would offer space in our humble abode, but any time soon we are about to end up with screaming twins. Maybe in a couple of years time when the screaming is confined to daytime only.. :D
Though would be still happy to show you around.

We had twins 6 years ago on the 10 March, the first 2 years are hard work but then everything falls into place and they are brilliant.
Enjoy them, and treasure every moment, good and not so good [there are no bads] because they grow and move on so quickly that if you are not careful the special moments are gone forever.
Good luck

enjoy the kits when they are young. Before you realise it they are grown up.
Oh, hooked on Land Rovers? I doubt it, my oldest son just got his drivers licence.
I offered him my ex-mod 90, what you think? He prefer the car of my wife ( Fiat)
So be prepared!!

Now I can hardly beleive it, turning down the Landie.. and going for a fiat..
Simple answer, we might just have to have an entire fleet of landies before they get to driving age.. so they have no choice.. :D

Hi all,
I've not been around for a while and have just found this thread so thought I would join in!
Lightning, if you do come over mate let me know! I need help rebuilding the l/w ;)
I sold the 110 at Xmas so am presently without the Landy. It was on a "grijs kenteken" (commercial road tax) and I wasnt prepared to pay 10x more in road tax now this loophole has been closed so it had to go. The lightweight is exempt so I have to get on and rebuild it now for the summer. Lets hope I can rejoin you guys from the prikpagina then eh?
Groetjes,
Mick

I would love to come over and help you with your lightweight, though now the twins have arrived, I seem to have my hands full .. :D
Sounds like it is getting expensive to drive Landies in the netherlands now, I assume it only applies to the commercial versions. Is the commercial road tax so much higher than the private vehicle now? If so, how does your businesses cope with such an expense?

Hi m8,
No it’s the other way round in fact. Dutch road tax is based on the weight of your vehicle and the fuel type. If you drive a massive great 4x4 urban thing then you pay a great deal more for the privilege. Its not just a few quid more either, the difference can be quite a lot. To be honest it’s a great system and much more socially responsible than the feeble attempt the UK made a few years back to address this.
Until recently a commercial vehicle was able to have what was known as a grey license. This meant that commercials (defined by load space and number of seats etc) such as an ex military landie were relatively cheap to run considering the weight. The Dutch are a canny people and exploited the grey license however. Even to the point of having regular cars converted to comply with the regulations for a grey license. You often see estate cars running around with extended roofs (to comply with load space definitions), just two front seats and blacked out rear windows. The government have been threatening to close this loophole for years and have decided to do it as of Jan 06. Grey licenses will only be available to those who can prove they actually have a business and record the mileages etc so it’s no problem for the legitimate businesses.
As you can imagine the backside has fallen out of the market for vehicles like pick ups, Mercedes Vito vans, Land Rovers and all sorts. A mate of mine paid 11,000 for a Vito 12 months ago and its now worth around 5,000. He can’t sell it and is faced with a road tax bill that he said has gone up by ten times!! Not a good time to sell my Landie either. Two years ago I was offered 11,000 for mine, I sold it for 6,000 last Jan.
Ho, hum
Anyway, hope you found this rant of some interest? Good luck and congratulations with the twins mate, you are going to need it :D You don’t enjoy sleeping do you?
L8rs,
Mick
