Hello to you all Scots. I know I might sound out of place as I'm from Malta but I all I can say about Scottish people is that nearly everyone was very friendly and welcoming last December!!!!
I was in Edinburgh and I did see a couple of Defenders, even muddy ones!!! Mostly I saw the latest Range Rover but I managed to get a glimpse of a couple of LR3s as well!!!
I don't wanna sound any intrusive here.........but I am planning to come and live there by the end of this year........hope this doesn't sound bad :(
Anyhow, I hope there's plenty of off-roading to do as I am planning to come over with my 2.5 NA 90 and the place I'm gonna live in is Edinburgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

OK dborg - you got a serious problem that psychiatrist friend of mine can help you solve.
Let's start on a point by point basis:-
1. "Nearly everyone was friendly" - Yep, we all try to be friendly but there's so many Kiwis, Aussies and Canadians in Edinburgh, your chances of meeting a TRUE local are few and far between - but we are here and proud of our Capital City. And we are friendly.
2. Edinburgh gets VERY C.O.L.D. Be aware of that - memories of sitting on the harbour-side in Valetta drinking EXCELLENT coffee and eating cream cakes in the sunshine in March. Think VERY carefully about this relocation. Oh and we get BIGGER winds than Malta I can tell you.
3. Yep, we got loads of off-roading but mostly on club type sites. No greenlanes in scotland. Yell when you get here and we'll tell you where you can go to play.
Look forward to meeting up in the future.
Regards
Ian

well Edinburgh is an off road course in it's own right.. I see the council workmen working all over the city making it even harder, creating holes, bumps, ruts.. :D
Who needs greenlanes..

We got BUS lanes - even MORE hazardous.
And all that COUNCIL tax we pay - or whatever the heck they wanna call it now - guarantees you access to the most exclusive off-road club in the UK.
DON'T get me started!!!!
Happy pothole dodging.

Couldn't agree more with you both , the roads here in Edinburgh are an absolute disgrace ! Every day is an adventure , looking out for the latest crater to open up. Sorry to turn this thread into a rant.
Anyway dborg01 , you'll love staying in Edinburgh despsite the cold , bad roads , expensive beer , too many tourists......
Cheers.

Well, looks like I stirred this up a bit!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all for the good info especially Ian/EdinMac!
And if Edinburgh is an Off-Road Course, we, the Maltese drivers, will qualify as expert moon drivers!! Our roads made the ones in Edinburgh look like marble!!
Anyway, the area I was in was Corstorphine and the people I've come to know are all purely Scottish blood!!
Also the cold weather doesn't matter at all. I've spent the last 25 and a half years in hot weather so I've got enough to last me another 25 years.......in the meantime I'll be visiting my homeland to recharge myself :D .
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you  . I will be up there soon to check about renting somewhere to live in and to check about for a job. I scrapped the idea of coming with my landy though as it might not be worth it. I will sell it here as I'll definitely get more money for it....then I come there and find something else.....maybe I could be guided by any of you!!
I don't care if off-roading is club-style only, I'd have to figure how it's done and then I start my own thing.......maybe!!! I managed to get a club going here in Malta and there's no reason why I won't venture onto something 'adventurous' there as well.
I love the highlands but I'd rather start in Edinburgh first........there's a lot of reasons for this :smart:
Anyway, you made me feel so welcome already and I'm too eager to give this a shot.......................
