I could be in a position to help on this one, as the day job involves working for an outdoor equipment retailer.
It really depends on the type of thing you are looking for ie able to stand up inside, large porch or lightweight backpacking style, but assuming its out the back of the Defender I would suggest a more spacious model from the likes of Vango, Wild Country or Coleman all of which do a range of tents to suit.
As a general rule the more you spend, the better the quality of materials and poles, its worth getting alloy poles if possible as they are lighter but also a lot stronger.
The shop currently have a few deals on tents as its coming to the end of the camping season for all but the hardy types who camp all year.

If you want something heavy duty, you could consider a surplus tent.
http://www.tentsplus.co.uk/
I've got a 9x9 http://www.tentsplus.co.uk/99ip.htm
and a 7x9 http://www.tentsplus.co.uk/79ip.htm
You can shop around, and get better deal's at show's etc (for example I got my 7x9 brand new for £20 from a stall at Beltring).
