Can anyone recommend where to get the above, I want to use an inverter to run the midge killer when camping.
WOuld i need to have the engine running to run the inverter or would it run off the second battery??
Electrics make my brain hurt.
Only 4 weeks till midgie season!!

It all depends how much power it takes .. you'd really run it off your second battery, only if it's pretty hefty it will drain that in a short period. Check the power consumption on the midge killer ...

has anyone got a circuit diagram for a split charge system? I want to build one for camping out of the back of my 130, was also thinking of roof mounted solar panels to top the second battery up.
Anybody tried this?

I used the diagram at the bottom of the page from this site (http://www.kampenwagen.co.uk/Split%20Charge.htm) when I wired my relay in.

I got the relay from Matt Savage (http://www.mattsavage.co.uk/page1.html) at Billing last year and used an Optima Orange as the second battery. Works very well and kept the fridge going through 35 degrees of the Belgium National in September!

I also have a small solar panel inside the Disco that keeps the second battery topped up, got that from the Hella stand at Billing for about £17. The secnd battery is used to run the fridge, 300 watt inverter and the 130 watt spots on the front. These are all wired through a fuse box that still has space for more items if I need to fit them. :p

Cheasy...i'm intrigued as to what your midge killer is like, got a piccy ?
Saw a good one last year outside the Jura Hotel on Jura of course :D
It worked from a gas bottle with electric zapper, apparently small amounts of gas being leaked attracted the liitle beasts close enough to then get electric pulses zinging all over their bodies :yay:
Result was a big pile of dead'uns all around on the ground.....:hahaha:

Hey O/F

The midge killer I have is different to the one on Jura, They burn propane to produce Carbon Dioxide which is what the midges are attracted to, it also uses Octanol - a pheromone attractant. The midges are then captured in a mesh back (alive) inside the machine. The one I have emits measured doses of Co2 (from a Co2 bottle), uses octanal and also has several heat pads - all of which are midge attractants. The theory is the machine mimics the breathing pattern and heat signature of a large mammal - the wee sh*tes are attacted inti it and then get 40,000 Volts up their bahookie when they touch the killing grid.
This unit is the only one that actually kills the midges, not just traps them and is made by Brandenburg, and is only available to the pest control trade.
I found a cheap gennie in the Screwfix catalogue so I think I'm gonna pick one of them up so I'm not reliant on stopping at campsites with hook ups.
I used this unit all last summer and it works very well - you still get bitten now and then but its far better than before.
Strange how popular you become when you pull up to set up camp and the midge killer comes out.
I don't want to abuse the non advertising principals of the forum but if any one wants more info on any aspects of midges, midge killers or indeed wants one at a discount please feel free to PM me.
