The subject says it all really. :) What do you tow and what do you use it for. Photos welcome.

I'll start

Two Tonne Twin Axle Box Trailer used to carry everything from firewood to quad bikes.

I don't have a photo just now - but I'll take one when my dad brings it back. :p

Cheers

have towed a 1967 Thompson glenelg caravan (borowed from parents!) with a 1982 Range rover classic for the past two years over to the west coast of scotland, but have just bought a 1999 RR DSE so hopefully will get a newer caravan to match! the thompson is fantastic though - esp for a mainly tent person as before that was many a trip spent under canvas - but fibreglass dome tents don't always stand up to the west coast wind!!

well I tow my 1984 Esterel c34 caramatic folding caravan mind you its so light you dont really notice it behind the landy, brilliant little thing it is the sides fold in on theirselves and roof folds down to cover it so it just looks like a 16' covered trailer and it saves getting wet/cold midge bitten when ever we go up to Glencoe/Arisaig/kyle of Lochalsh

then theres the sankey trailer that I brought for carrying my gardening gear/ rubbish thats waiting to be collected from my dads just havent found the time to go and collect it or the petrol money as b'hams a bit of a distance from Glasgow

and just for good measure every so often I tow a ifor williams plant trailer and a JCB 801 when ever I need to borrow my friends for a landscaping job

and I use my 1973 series 3 109 :)

Rice double horse trailer which gets used for just about everything, as well as horses of course: rubbish / recycling to the tip, bringing back hay and straw from the merchants, secondhand furniture etc etc...

When I want something a bit lighter, and having stuff covered up isn't an issue, I borrow a neighbour's 8x4 (?) Ifor single axle GP, very nippy little thing but it can't half carry some stuff...!

Will post a pic of the Rice when I remember to get some batteries for my cheapo camera...:buck:

From time to time I tow a home made (I say home made, it was actually built in a workshop) trailer mounted on my old Land Rover wheels (the only bits I have left after it was stolen)...looks a bit like a Sankey on steroids. :)

My 2 'drag-laong' items are the Elddis Crusader Storm & a Caddy 535 trailer.
If I need anything bigger I borrow a 10foot twin axle off a friend.

The last time I got to play with anything bigger was when I was asked to act as recovery for the bro-in-law, he hired a 16foot Ifor-Williams tilt-bed trailer.
A very nice bit of kit, it took some reversing onto the driveway overnight, as the lane is only about 20foot wide.

It was used to go to Wilmslow to fetch back a Samurai he'd bought.

Except..........
It had no keys, so the steering lock was on (at an angle)
The tyres were all flat
The trailer had a hand-winch, damn hard work

Once it was on we ended up using a bottle-jack & blocks of wood (just as you would a hi-lift) to centre it on the trailer.

Didn't do too bad, I worked it out to 29mpg over both directions.

Then on arrival at his house we lifted the bed, slid it off (onto the little Conifers belonging to his SWMBO) I couldn't wait around as I had the trailer to return before they shut.

I believe he got into trouble for running them over.

A proper load, towed with a proper 'tow car' :p

I hope that the 110 is as good.

I tow a elddis shamal 4 berth caravan with my series 3.
We tend to holiday within a 200 mile radius of home.Due to time travelling and fuel costs.
Does about 12 to 14 to a gallon when fully loaded.
Slow speed but I can rely on getting to my destination eventually.

I tow an Ivor Williams P100 trailer with ladder racks and no cover. Tows beautifully, but it cannot reverse at all ....... maybe the driver needs more practice!!

Only towed a caravan once, a twin axle Swift Challenger beast, from Scotland to Portugal with an 82 RR. The boge self leveller failed on the ferry and we had to drive down with the RR nose in the air and it's a*se on the ground. Made the steering and handling quite interesting on the motorways:dunno1:

I tow a monsterous Swift Challenger 590, and our Frankenstien trailer. It used to be a caravan which was adapted to take a boat, compressor and diving gear. It's a bit odd. :p

Oh, and I will also be towing an old assault craft which also perches on an ex-caravan.

I built a 8x4 twin axle trailer for hauling crap and scrap. I have a 15x6 twin axle transporter, and my '81 Avondale Osprey Super 16' caravan.

Also built two camping trailers using packing crates that ended up looking like this.

I tow a boat trailer with a 20 foot boat {overall about 26 feet}
I also have a Brian James Car Transporter which is about 23 feet long. I also have a 5 x 3 box trailer which I use for taking rubbish to the tip and this is the worst of the three to reverse.

I towed a Coachman 570-6 with my old landy (110 TD) and my boat with my present 110. Pic is during a 1100+ return journey to Scotland last year.

I'm taking my Caravan out Good Friday to Hartington Quarry for the first time, only towed it a mile or so from where I bought it.

I have a small trailer and towed many car trailers in the past with Rally cars on, but Good Friday will be a new experience - I will report back :hahaha:

cheers, Tim
